Cabinet Refacing | Repair Home - March 19, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

There are a variety of ways you can reface your cabinets. You can change the doors of your cabinets. Or, you can add new hardware to your cabinets. Cabinet refacing also can involve changing the color of your cabinets.

One way to change the look of your cabinet doors is by adding wood veneer to your cabinets. This can be done if your cabinets are smooth. By placing wood veneer on top of your existing cabinet doors, you can achieve a whole new look without having to replace the cabinet doors. And, veneer is easy to install, with the simplicity of a peel-and-stick backing. Wood veneer also comes in a variety of colors.

Another way to reface your cabinets is by actually removing all of your doors and drawers. This is a bit more expensive, and a bit more labor intensive. But, by replacing your doors and drawers, you can choose other styles of wood that may be more updated. You can then update your hardware to add a completely new look.

There are a variety of ways to change your cabinets. Cabinet refacing just takes a little bit of creativity and bit of construction knowledge. But, in little time, you can get a kitchen that looks brand new!

Kitchen, Bathroom & Laundry Cabinet Refacing | FAQs - March 4, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

Q: How does cabinet refacing compare to the cost of purchasing new cabinets?

A: Refacing is generally less expensive than the cost of purchasing and installing new cabinets. Actual savings will depend on choices made at the time of refacing.

A: New doors and drawers are custom made to fit the exact measurements of the cabinet openings. The custom made materials will typically arrive in four to six weeks and installation averages three to six days, depending on the scope of work.

A: For less than the cost to have them professionally stripped, sanded and refinished, you can have your cabinets professionally refaced by Furniture Medic. Our materials are finished with a topcoat and sealed in high-temperature infrared ovens, ensuring maximum resistance to UV fading, scuffing and moisture.

A: Our goal is to save you both time and money. That is why we recommend not refacing the interior of your cabinets, because, when full, there is actually very little surface exposed. However, in places where you are using glass doors, we can use our high quality hardwood veneers to reface these interior surfaces.

A: If you would like new knobs or drawer pulls, we can assist in the selection of these items. We will professionally install them for a reasonable fee.

A: If necessary, we will fill and repair existing hinge holes prior to refacing the surface.

A: Yes. If the existing drawer slides are in good working order, we will only replace the drawer fronts. However, if the drawer slides need repair or the drawer box is worn, we can replace them with new drawer slides and boxes. It is more cost effective to replace these items than to repair them.

A: In addition to new cabinet doors and drawers, we offer:

A: There is no need to replace the countertops to reface your kitchen or bath cabinets. If you are planning to have new countertops installed, we recommend you replace the countertops while your custom cabinet doors and drawers are being made.

A: We suggest you clear your countertops, emptyyour drawer boxesand remove anything blocking acabinet door. However, you do not have to remove the contents of your cabinets as long as they do not extend beyond the face frame.

A: No harsh chemicals are used our cabinet refacing process. This means no significant dust or odors for you and your kitchen or bath. More importantly, your home will be returned to a clean condition for your use at the end of each working day.

A: Cabinet Refacing is not solely for your kitchen. In fact, many rooms of your home can receive the benefit of cabinet refacing such as your laundry room, bathroom, home office, and bedroom.

How to Install | Kitchen Reface - March 3, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Remember to shoot before photos.

After you place your order, youll have a few weeks before your KR kit arrives. Before you do anything, its fun toshoot before photos of your kitchen.Make a note of the location you shoot from, so you can shoot similar photos after youre finished installing your KR kit. See our customer reviews page for some examples.

Old cabinet doors come down easily. In most cases drawer fronts are removed from the drawer boxes by simply backing out a few screws. If youre applying our PSA veneers, youll clean and lightly sand the face frames in preparation.

Youll notice we often refer to the veneer as PSA. Pressure Sensitive Adhesive is a very advanced glue that is already on the wood veneer. The usual procedure is to rough cut the pieces, then peel the backing paper and apply the veneer to the face frame. After it is in place, it can be trimmed with a utility knife, carefully following the edge of the face frame.

The PSA veener is relatively easy to install, but it is admittedly the most difficult part of the installation. An even simpler method is to convert to larger overhangs on doors and drawers, in order to hide as much of the face frame as possible. The reaveal of the face frame, when doors are closed, becomes so small that it is negligible. The nice thing about this approach is that its not a compromise, but actually adheres to trends in cabinet design and your kitchen will look more current. With this approach, you simply paint the face frame with a paint color that matches your new doors finish. Painting the face frame is much easier and can result in a final project that is just as attractive as the real wood veneer.

The doors are already drilled for hinges, which will be included but not installed on the door, if you added them in your order. Fasten the hinges on the door, then hold the door in the opening while you attach the door to the cabinet. Drawer fronts are handled one of two ways depending on the style of drawer boxes. See the video and the drawer details on our install page.

Youre finished. Step back and admire your work. Time toshoot your after photos, write a quick couple of paragraphs about your KitchenReface project and email them to us, so we can post your review for others to see.

cabinet refacing options – Kitchen Cabinets design - March 3, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

The first time you walked into the kitchen of your home, there's no doubt you had an immediate opinion about the cabinets. Given that you're reading this article, chances are you weren't crazy about them. Kitchen cabinets must be functional, but they should also look great and, in a perfect world, fit with your home's dcor. They're an important focal point.

But before you embark on the expensive task of replacing your kitchen cabinets, which can cost $30,000 or more depending on materials and the size of your kitchen, be sure to also consider the possibility of refacing them.

No matter what you think of your kitchen cabinets' aesthetics, don't toss them out without assessing their durability and functionality. Not only is that ecologically irresponsible, it's financially foolish. Older cabinets, in many cases, are better built than cabinets you can buy new. Refacing allows you to transform perfectly good, but unattractive cabinets by adding new door and drawer fronts and door hardware. Exposed cabinet faces are covered.

Refacing cabinets can cost as little as $3,000 for a basic job and as much as $10,000 or more. The cost rises if you choose to reface your cabinets using the most expensive material, wood veneer. Also available for refacing are: plastic laminates and rigid thermofoils or RTFs. Plastic laminates come in a wide range of colors. While RTFs come in fewer colors, they can be shaped and molded into a variety of styles, including convincing wood grain patterns.

Both big and small companies specialize in cabinet refacing and you can easily find listings online or in your local telephone directory. Refacing, depending on the scale of your project, can generally be completed in two to three days. Extras, such as adding cabinets, a kitchen island, and molding and trim work, will extend the job.

Buying new kitchen cabinets is an investment that you add tremendous comfort and value to your home. But it's a long-term investment. The longer you plan to live in your home, the better your chances are to fully realize the fruits of your hard-earned dollars.
