Grove City company charged with consumer law violations - July 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

By MARK DUBOVEC Wednesday July 23, 2014 10:29 AM

The Ohio Attorney General's Office has filed a lawsuit against a Grove City business and its owner, charging consumer law violations.

Attorney General Mike DeWine's office announced July 9 that a suit had been filed against Quality 1st Home Improvements LLC and its owner, Tony Logan, for violations of Ohio's consumer laws.

A news release from the attorney general's office identifies specific counts of failure to deliver, performing shoddy work and failing to give consumers notice of their three-day right to cancel under the state's Consumer Sales Practices Act and Home Solicitation Sales Act.

The case was filed with the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas and has been assigned to Judge Charles Schneider. The defendant has 28 days from when it was served to respond.

"It's still in the process phase," said Dan Tierney, spokesman for DeWine's office. "It's essentially in the pretrial phase."

The lawsuit seeks, according to the news release, restitution for consumers, civil penalties and an injunction to stop further violations.

"That's generally the goal of any consumer litigation," Tierney said.

According to a brief filed by DeWine's office, Logan faces a civil penalty of $25,000 for each separate violation, if he is convicted.

Quality 1st Home Improvements, a home-based business that operates out of 5046 Demorest Drive, offers home improvement services, specifically basement remodeling.

High matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression induces microangiogenesis after cerebral infarction - July 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    PUBLIC RELEASE DATE:

    22-Jul-2014

Basement membrane degradation and blood-brain barrier damage appear after cerebral infarction, severely impacting neuronal and brain functioning. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 is able to degrade the major components of the basement membrane around cerebral blood vessels and to mediate extracellular matrix remodeling. Therefore, Dr. Huilian Hou and colleagues from the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical School of Xi'an Jiaotong University, China induced cerebral infarction in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats by intragastric administration of high-sodium water (1.3% NaCl) for 7 consecutive weeks. Researchers found that matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression, the number of blood vessels with discontinuous collagen IV expression and microvessel density were significantly higher, and the number of continuous collagen IV-positive blood vessels was lower in the infarct border zones of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats given high-sodium water. Linear correlation analysis showed matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression was positively correlated with the number of discontinuously collagen IV-labeled blood vessels and microvessel density in cerebral infarcts of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats. These results published in the Neural Regeneration Research (Vol. 9, No. 11, 2014) suggest that matrix metalloproteinase-9 upregulation is associated with increased regional angiogenesis and degradation of collagen IV, the major component of the basal lamina, in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats with high-sodium water-induced focal cerebral infarction.

First Baptist Church to undergo renovations - July 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

New basement, elevator part of $650,000 project

Amherst First Baptist is undergoing a $650,000 renovation that will include a new basement and the installation of an elevator.

    Darrell Cole - Cumberlandnewsnow.com

Rev. Byron Corkum looks over plans for the $600,000 renovation of Amherst First Baptist that will include a new basement and the installation of an elevator. The church will be launching a capital campaign in August. The project will be complete by fall.

AMHERST Amhersts historic First Baptist Church is set to undergo a significant change.

The church is just about ready to launch a capital campaign in the community to raise the $650,000 necessary to complete a series of much-needed renovations including remodeling the basement of the building and installing an elevator.

Its the first renovations weve done in the basement in 60 years, while the elevator is something we need to make the building completely accessible, Rev. Byron Corkum said Wednesday while looking over plans. We really needed a new kitchen facility in the basement and an elevator is a necessity for when we move things to the basement and its also important in terms of accessibility.

Corkum expects the renovations will begin later this month and be complete by the end of October. The elevator will be finished by the end of the year.

The renovation will include a new kitchen in the basement as well as a complete redesign. Corkum said walls will be knocked down so that the main room is bigger. He said the basement will be rewired and will have a new sound system, there will be new ceilings and new walls.

At present, the basement is used for youth group, for meetings and other events. The church is also a comfort centre for the Town of Amherst and Municipality of Cumberland and Corkum said the renovations will include a new bathroom thats barrier-free and will also include a shower.
