Norman Foster - DLD10 - Interview Series
Norman Foster is one of the most important architects practising in the world today. His practice, Foster + Partners, is based in London but has project offices worldwide. Since its foundation in 1967, the practice has pioneered a sustainable approach to architecture and ecology through a strikingly wide range of projects, from urban masterplans, airports, civic and cultural buildings, offices and workplaces to private houses and product design. Foster has completed projects as diverse as the Reichstag, Berlin #39;s new Parliament, Chek Lap Kok International Airport in Hong Kong and the Great Court at the British Museum in London. Recent work includes the Hearst Tower New York, Millau Viaduct in France and Beijing Airport. Norman Foster was appointed to the Order of Merit by the Queen in 1997. In 1999 he was honoured with a life peerage, taking the title Lord Foster of Thames Bank and won the Pritzker Architecture Prize the same year.From:DLDconferenceViews:4 0ratingsTime:11:15More inScience Technology

ECE2012 - Practical OSGi Subsystems
Glyn Normington - SpringSource / VMware The OSGi Subsystems specification is now published. Subsystems provide a way of structuring large systems comprising many OSGi bundles - a "no brainer" for architects who want to build a modular system. But what are the practical considerations when using Subsystems? We #39;ll look at the trade-offs involved and indicate some patterns and anti-patterns. Eclipse Virgo was one of the technologies that provided input to the Subsystem specification. We #39;ll use Virgo as a source of examples in discussing the practical trade-offs in the use of Subsystems. euronews hi-tech - The Internet of Things
http://www.euronews.com LeWeb is one of the major annual dates in the Web industry, attracting around 3500 professionals, investors, bloggers and internet fans. The theme this year was "The Internet of Things" or how objects interconnect and communicate. One of the most popular ideas at the conference was "Nest": a thermostat which learns your habits. It was developed by Tony Fadell #39;s company Smart Things. Like other thermostats it can be remotely controlled from your Smartphone. It has sensors which monitor temperature, humidity, light and movement, so it knows when the house is occupied and immediately goes to the prefered temperature and can be "educated" so according to the company, it can lead to important energy savings. A Wi-Fi Plant Sensor developed by Phillip Bollinger #39;s company Koubachi monitors the health of pot plants, both indoors and out. The data is sent to a cloud, and the user can access it from anywhere via a Smartphone or a computer. The device can help people learn to grow plants but more importantly, help people who are away from home know if their plants are thriving or not. How often have you seen something in a catalogue, but been unable to imagine what it would look like in your home? Well, an augmented reality application can help. You can virtually detach the object, and turn it into 3D in your house or office. You can also test paintings on your walls and architects can see in advance how a building will relate to its environment once it is finished ...From:EuronewsViews:44 7ratingsTime:04:01More inShows

Matthew Lloyd #39;FridaySaturdaySunday #39;
FridaySaturdaySunday is a collaboration between three London based architects to create a conceptual space for Muslim, Christian and Jewish worship. They asked us to create a video telling the story of their ideas and how the project developed. They wanted it to be more of an art piece than a documentary. The video we created is now part of an art installation in the Urban Dialogues exhibition at the Red Gallery, Shoreditch until 1st December. Architects: Matthew Lloyd, Daniel Leon and Shaheed Saleem.From:redsharktvViews:0 0ratingsTime:05:30More inFilm Animation

Sonata Chronicles - VLog Episode 20
In this episode, Charles and William discuss more about the script for Part 2 of The Sonata Chronicles cinematic trilogy. This episode even features the announcement of that film #39;s title! In the end, Charles and William ask you to answer two questions for them to make the concept better suit the audience. 1) Which location name do you like better - The Keep of the Architects or The Architect Towers? (Variations acceptable.) 2) If there were a "The Call to Reign" Kickstart campaign, what would you like to see given as rewards? Post your answers to these questions or ask questions of your own in the comments section here or on Facebook. Also feel free to message us on Twitter if you prefer. Securing Rest-ful Web Services with OAuth2
One of the questions we get asked the most by developers and architects is: when and why would I use OAuth2? The answer, as often with such questions, is "it depends", but there are some features of OAuth2 that make it compelling in some situations, especially in systems composed of many lightweight web services, which becoming a very common architectural pattern. This presentation will not go into a lot of detail about the OAuth2 protocol and related specifications, but will attempt to show some of the key features of a system secured with OAuth2 and the decision points when choosing to build such a system.From:SpringSourceDevViews:3 0ratingsTime:01:26:25More inScience Technology
