SAN ANTONIO- You can call it a personal vendetta or a streak of bad luck for a man whose appliance and repair shop burned down last Sunday. Now exactly one week later another one of his appliance shops was broken into.
A 1300 pound steer named Kenmore was taken. He has since been located but that's not the end of the cattle heist.
What we do typically is some evenings we let him free range around the property, but we have a security fence perimeter around here and we have video surveillance at all times. And we've never had a problem around here, explained Rudy Madrid, Kenmores owner.
Rudy's stroke of bad luck started last Sunday. Thats when his other appliance shop located along 9800 block of Marbach went up in flames. Just days after the fire Rudy realized the copper wiring had been stolen from the building.
In the end, Rudy said it appeared as if Kenmore was too much for the thieves to handle since they cut him loose. Kenmore is safely back home and unharmed. But, as a precautionary measure his owner has hired a security grounds keeper to keep an eye out on Kenmore and the appliance shop.

The Flat-Snap micro-site is a central repository of data on the appliance industry leading product. It contains data to aid manufacturing companies in selecting the best connector for their applications.
Bradenton, FL (PRWEB) October 17, 2012
ETCOs patented Flat-Snap wire termination connector is an industry leading solution. It is currently being used in a multitude of manufacturing applications primarily in the appliance industry. Some of the uses include wire termination on heating elements found in dishwashers and electric ranges as well as electric range eye connectors. ETCO wants to show that this type of product can be used in nearly any type of appliance connector application.
Engineered with manufacturing operation safety and simple end user repair access, the flat-snap connector consists of two ears that lock into place once applied to a male connecting unit. Manufacturing line workers and automated systems simply snap the connector into place and pull slightly to ensure the connection is tight. Once in place, it is nearly impossible to move or shift it off the main male unit. The connector is comparable to the faston terminal series of connectors currently available on the market and comes in a variety of metals including brass, tinned brass and a high temperature copper alloy for the aforementioned appliance heating assemblies.
ETCOs Director of Marketing, Sam Francois states, This Flat-Snap micro-site is in response to the overwhelming industry interest to ETCOs Flat-Snap product. He continues, Visitors can use the site to download pdf datasheets and get current manufacturing quotes for the Flat-Snap product. ETCO is initially making the new line of Flat-Snap products available to a limited number of manufacturers and plans to rollout variations of the product for custom manufacturing applications.

SAN ANTONIO- A blaze destroyed an appliance repair shop on the west side. Heavy smoke and fire damage also took over a neighboring church in its path.
The flames ignited around 4:30 Sunday morning along the 9800 block of Marbach, and quickly intensified. Bright orange flames could be seen shooting up into the sky. Fire fighters battled the fire but in the end it proved to be too much to tame. The damage had been done.
You can see the devastation of the roof. I couldn't get into the other room to show you the part where we actually had a fire wall there that actually protected the church from actually burning up, explained Pastor Terrell Jackson of Faith Based Institute.
The church and the appliance shop both leased space from the building owner who said he had insurance and plans to rebuild.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Cooking fires far exceed most home-related fires, and they are more expensive to repair. Fires that start on the stove outpace appliance, fireplace, smoking, candle or furnace fires. According to claims data compiled by Nationwide Insurance, the average cooking fire claim damage is more than $30,000, which is four times higher than the next most expensive type of homeowners claim.
Seventeen percent of all Nationwide Insurance residential fire insurance claims were caused by cooking last year, said Mark Pizzi, president & COO of Nationwide Insurance. Weve learned a lot from our response to fires over the past few years. Having a plan and taking some small steps now can go a long way toward preventing the unthinkable.
Nationwide is urging homeowners to observe Fire Prevention Week October 7-13, 2012. Homeowners should check out our fire prevention infographic for tips on what they can do now to protect their homes and loved ones in the event of a fire.
Use Fire Prevention Week as motivation to make an emergency escape plan, check your smoke alarms, and identify your risks, added Pizzi. You can never be too prepared for the unexpected.
Last year, Nationwide found that March -- followed by April, December, October and May -- were the months with the most kitchen fires claims -- not just during the holiday months as most people might guess.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), one in 22 households will have a cooking fire each year. Cooking is involved in an estimated 156,400 home structure fires reported to U.S. fire departments. These fires caused:

Pate Appliance Services began like many other family owned and operated businesses.
Joe Pate was a handyman who worked for several other places before setting out on his own in 1954. He repaired everything from furnaces to toasters, according to his son Mike, who began working for his father in 1973.
Mike eventually took ownership in 1978 and now runs the family business with his sons, Tom and Adam. The business began on High Street and has been at its current location at 780 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. for 13 years.
He was mechanically gifted, Mike Pate said of his father. He had a thorough knowledge of anything electrical, heating and plumbing. He could just fix anything.
As soon as he could walk, Mike Pate was going along on service calls with his father. When Tom and Adam were old enough, they too went on calls with their father.
I always remember that everyone knew dad, Tom Pate said of his ride-alongs. Ive always liked the mechanical side of things. We took things apart when we were little and dad would put them back together.
But it isnt just about repairs. Its about the customer, Adam Pate said.
When I came on, I got to go on every service call with my father for several years, he said. I was able to see how all the repair work was done, but I also got to see how to deal with the customer in the best way possible and thats the way we are going to continue to do business.
Tom Pate said he worked several other jobs before coming to the family business. No matter what he was hired to do, however, he always ended up fixing things.
This is a good business to be in if you like people, he said. And we just really love what we do.

The day after the first presidential debate, it wasn't Barack Obama or Mitt Romney getting the most attention. It was the maker of colorful kitchen appliances.
KitchenAid spent much of Thursday trying to repair the damage from a wayward tweet about President Obama that whipped up social media outrage faster than one of its signature blenders can spit out a smoothie.
The tweet, put out by a member of the company's social media team during the Obama-Romney faceoff Wednesday in Denver, attacked the president in a particularly personal way.
As Obama reminisced about his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who died shortly before Obama was elected president in 2008, the tweet appeared on KitchenAid's official Twitter account, @KitchenAidUSA: "Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president!"
The outrage was almost immediate, with angry Twitter users threatening to boycott the Benton Harbor, Mich., company.
The appliance maker, which is owned by Whirlpool Corp., quickly deleted the tweet. Cynthia Soledad, a KitchenAid marketing executive, issued a series of apologies via Twitter and Facebook.
"I would like to personally apologize to President @BarackObama, his family and everyone on Twitter for the offensive tweet sent earlier," she wrote. "It was carelessly sent in error by a member of our Twitter team who, needless to say, won't be tweeting for us anymore."
Soledad said in a separate statement that the employee meant to post the tweet on a personal account but mistakenly sent it instead through the corporate account. She referred to the tweet as a "tasteless joke."
The PR disaster shows the risks that companies take in using social media to leverage their brands. With 140 million active users worldwide, Twitter has been an especially popular site for corporations looking to advertise new products or tout discounts, particularly during big events such as the Academy Awards or the Super Bowl.
But in contrast to traditional advertising, the medium is fast-moving and unforgiving. The click of a button can send the wrong message to millions. There were about 10 million debate-related tweets issued during Wednesday's presidential showdown.
