GreenPro Cleaning & Restoration Recommends Having Air Ducts Cleaned - January 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Deer Park, NY (PRWEB) January 17, 2014

GreenPro Cleaning & Restoration suggest that customers get their air ducts cleaned regularly. This is important to do because there are more factors besides the normal accumulations of dust and dirt found in all homes through regular use that can increase the need for air duct cleaning.

A simple visual inspection can indicate whether or not air ducts need to be cleaned. To do this, remove a floor or wall register with a screwdriver. If there is visible dirt, the air ducts should be cleaned. To properly clean HVAC systems and keep them clean, the sources of contamination must be removed. Getting good filters and keeping them clean will also help with keeping your HVAC system clean.

Allergy and asthma sufferers, as well as young children and the elderly, tend to be more susceptible to the types of poor indoor air quality that air duct cleaning can help to address.

GreenPro Cleaning & Restoration recommends that HVAC systems be inspected every two years to determine whether or not the air ducts need to be cleaned. For more information about air duct cleaning and GreenPro Cleaning & Restoration, visit their website at http://www.cleanmydirtyairducts.com/.

Teachers’ union still concerned over air quality at Lindsay school - January 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Kawartha Lakes This Week

(LINDSAY) Despite improvements made in several areas at Leslie Frost Public School, the local teachers union continues to be concerned over air quality at the Lindsay facility.

On Sept. 26, an independent environmental consultant tested three classrooms and an Oct. 9 report indicated elevated carbon dioxide levels in one room. An air handling unit problem was found and fixed, but retesting on Nov. 13, showed levels remained elevated.

More work and testing followed. Parents were informed that results fell outside of provincially legislated, allowable levels. As a precaution, staff were asked to open windows and doors.

Still concerned over conflicting reports - documents showed CO2 levels were above American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards - and after complaints from members, local Elementary Teachers Federation (ETFO) president Steve Colliver pushed the Trillium Lakelands District School Board for further action.

The Ministry of Labour was contacted and further testing, this time on all classrooms and portables, took place Dec. 6.

The Board has always believed it has been following the Health and Safety Act, said board human resources administrator Earl Manners, citing union referenced standards were not the proper ones.

A report filed by the Ministry indicated the Boards action meet the Act. No orders were issued for the Board.

Further work was done, including minor repairs to individual air units in portables as well as duct work and cleaning inside the school.

However, the union is still not overly pleased.

Donations pour in after burst pipe damages Humane Association of CNY - January 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Liverpool, NY -- The Humane Association of Central New York took to social media last week to ask for help after a pipe burst and flooded parts of the animal shelter damaging the ceiling, the shelter's supply of cat litter and the furnace.

The community sprung into action. Community members made donations and dropped off containers of cat litter. Local businesses also jumped in to help. A crew from Stanley Steemer arrived almost immediately to clean up the water.

The Humane Association also received a large donation from Angelo Chiodo, the owner of Chiodo Heating, Air Conditioning and Duct Cleaning. Chiodo, in conjunction with Goodman Manufacturing, donated four new furnaces and the installation to the shelter.

"Angelo Chiodo was simply amazing," Shelter Director Christine McNeely said in a news release. "He arrived at the shelter as soon as he heard we had a flood, asking us what he could do to help. He came back the following morning and serviced our furnaces for free and determined they were in catastrophic failure. We were aware that was happening, but didn't have the funds to replace the furnaces. Mr. Chiodo came back the following morning with a donation of four new furnaces and installation."

Installation of the furnaces starts today, McNeely said.

McNeely said many other companies and individuals have come to the need of the Humane Association. Many have offered to demo and repair not only the areas affected, but the connecting areas that are also in very poor condition.

"This disaster has turned into a community-wide effort to help the shelter," McNeely said. "We are extremely thankful to the community who support us year after year."

McNeely said the shelter has insurance and hopes that most of the damage will be covered, but the shelter is still in need. In addition to paying for the insurance deductible, the shelter is still in need of electrical, masonry and additional HVAC duct work that needs replacement.

Donations can be made online. Click on the "Please, Donate!" flag on the screen. Donations can also be mailed to the Humane Association of CNY, 4915 1/2 West Taft Road, Liverpool, NY 13088.

The Humane Association of CNY is a no-kill, not-for-profit, animal shelter housing anywhere from 200 to 400 animals on a daily basis since 1966. The Humane Association is completely privately funded.
