VIENNA, VA The coronavirus pandemic means Halloween will look different this year. Fairfax County isn't recommending traditional door-to-door trick-or-treat, but the locality doesn't make decisions to host or cancel Halloween events.

Nevertheless, some events are happening in 2020 with safety precautions. We've rounded up some of the family-friendly events in the coming days in and around Vienna.

Many events may require pre-registration due to attendance limits. The list includes some events that have already sold out. Let us know in the comments if we missed anything.

The wave parade of 10 to 15 floats will leave the Vienna Community Center at 10 a.m. and visit the four quadrants of Vienna. Residents are encourged to dress up in costumes and view the parade near their homes. A route will be announced on Oct. 29 after 3 p.m.

Trunk or Treat at Emmanuel Lutheran Church: 2589 Chain Bridge Road, Vienna, VA

Oct. 31, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Families are invited to a socially-distanced trunk-or-treat. Children can wear costumes and participate in a parade. Afterward, they can visit various decorated trunks for nut-free, individually wrapped treats set out on tables. Masks are required for adults. Sign up online.

Caffe Amouri will hand out individual bags of treats to children. Costumes are encouraged.

Roer's Zoofari Boo at the Zoo: 1228 Hunter Mill Rd, Vienna, VA

Various times

Head out to the safari in costume for Boo at the Zoo. Guests on the walking tour can receive candy at tables from local businesses. Self-drive safari guests will get pre-packaged candy bags in their cars at candy stations. There will also be glitter body tattoos, a pumpkin patch, a Halloween contest and more.

Halloween Drive-up Movie Night: Lerner Town Square at Tysons II, 8025 Galleria Drive, Tysons, VA

Oct. 31, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This event will feature socially-distant car trick-or-treating and two movies: "Scooby Doo Stage Fright" and "Beetlejuice." Attendees can also participate in a car decorating costume contest and costume contest. The Greater D.C./Virginia Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is hosting the event with funds helping IBD patients.

Drive-By Pumpkin Patch at Fairfax High School: 3501 Lion Run, Fairfax, VA

Oct. 30, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Check out the carved pumpkins on Lion Run in this drive-by event. Donations of nonperishable or dry goods will be collected for A Place to Stand program.

Trick or Treat Trail in Fairfax City: 3730 Old Lee Hwy, Fairfax, VA

Oct. 31, 10 a.m.to 1 p.m.

Police and the Parks and Recreation Department will host drive-thru trick-or-treating. There will be candy and giveaways while supplies last. Costumes are encouraged.

Spooktacular Science Show: Veterans Amphitheater: 10455 Armstrong Street, Fairfax, VA

Oct. 31 at 1:30 p.m.

Children will learn the magic behind Halloween from a "mad scientist." Expect bubbling potions, color-changing fire and more experiments centered around Halloween. The event is free, but pre-registration is required.

Drive-In Movies at Mosaic: 8295 Glass Alley, Fairfax, VA

Oct. 31, 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The Mosaic District will show "Casper" and "Hocus Pocus" at the drive-in series.

Cookie and Cake Decorating at Fran's Cake & Candy Supplies: 10927 Main Street, Fairfax, VA

Various times

There are various Halloween-themed classes being offered in the coming days. A few options include Halloween Cookie Decorating Class with Chef Dawn, Parent & Me Halloween Themed Unicorn Cake Decorating Class and Cookie Decorating: Halloween Sugar Cookies.
