A Westminister man is grinning behind bars--but the crime he's accused of isn't funny.

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office says 43-year-old Spencer Olguin conned an at-risk, legally blind woman out of tens of thousands of dollars, using his carpet cleaning company as a front. According to authorities, over a six-day period, Olguin drove to the woman's home and pretended to clean her carpets. Then he allegedly collected huge checks from her day after day, until he'd finally stolen $55,000 from the victim.

Authorities confronted Olguin over the fees he took from the victim, and say he refused to show any documents that could validate why he charged so much.

Friday, Olguin was arrested and placed in the Adams County Jail on a $50,000 bond--something the Elbert County sheriff said was disappointingly low.

Olguin is accused of stealing $55,000 from an Elbert County citizen," Sheriff Heap said in a statement released by the sheriff's office. Those that would prey on the matriarchs and patriarchs of our society have no honor and will be swiftly brought to justice."

Olguin operates Prestige Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning, which Heap says has a "F" rating on Better Business Bureau. He reminds the public to check those types of listings before hiring a business, to better protect themselves from criminals.
