Veterans Administration grants can help military veterans with health problems make needed home modifications to make their lives safer. One Cleveland area veteran's bathroom was renovated with a VA grant, with assistance from Cleveland Design & Remodeling and Bath Doctor, to include a barrier free roll in shower to accommodate his mobility needs.

Enter Cleveland Design and Remodeling, and Bath Doctor. These Ohio companies were able to help the Bey's achieve their practical yet crucial goals. "One of the most gratifying parts of my job is knowing our products can make a person's life easier and safer," says Cleveland Design & Remodeling and Bath Doctor President Mike Foti.

The Bey's old, risky tub was converted to a roll in shower using a no threshold shower base, transforming it into one continuous, barrier free wet room, complete with a safety-conscious fold down seat. In addition, the entry door to the bathroom was enlarged to allow for a wheelchair, an elongated, comfort height toilet was installed, and outdated and worn black and white tiles were replaced with updated products. Finally, an old sliding glass window and moldy sill were replaced with a sleek, energy efficient and maintenance free glass block window. The Bey's are thrilled to have a bathroom that is fresh, functional and, most importantly, safer for Charles.

The Home Improvement and Structural Alterations (HISA) grant through the VA can be used by qualified veterans for home modifications that will help sustain a veterans current capabilities or home independence. Contact the Veterans Administration HISA coordinator for more information.
