Mediacom Communications Corporations new corporate headquarters reflects the high-tech nature of its business. As architect and master planner for the project, Barry Poskanzer of Ridgewood, N.J.-based Poskanzer Skott Architects (PSA), worked closely with the nations 8th largest cable television company to design a forward-thinking office building with sophisticated amenitiesall set on 200 acres of farmland in Blooming Grove, N.Y.

Poskanzer describes the 110,000-square-foot building design as paying dual homage to its agri-cultural context as well as the architecture of classic modernism. PSA spearheaded every design and development detail, fast-tracking the project through programming, site plan approvals and construction and completing it in 26 months.

Mediacom sought an efficient and organized space that would foster a unique work environment while allowing room for future growth, Poskanzer said. We pride ourselves on being able to translate clients' wishes into well-designed and highly functional buildings.

The headquarters is set high on a hill surrounded by stone walls and wild meadows. Echoing its rustic setting, PSA incorporated a dramatic, three-story silo that houses conference spaces. Inside, the emphasis is on maximizing natural light and hilltop views for every employee. A serpentine glass wall and sweeping steel and glass staircase highlight a striking three-story lobby. The ground floor features lifestyle amenities including a full-service cafeteria and fitness center. The second and third stories include conference and training spaces, private offices, workstations and a skylight roof garden. Loft ceilings and dramatic lighting project a spacious feel throughout.

The building already has garnered several industry awards, including the Society of American Registered Architects 2013 Celebration of Architecture and Design; the Architects League of Northern New Jersey 2013 Peer Design Gold Award; and the Newark & Suburban Architects League 2012 Peer Design Bronze Award (un-built project).
