American Sign Museum
This is a short video from inside the American Sign Museum. The Chief and I took a tour led by curator Tod Swormstedt, who was extremely knowledgable in answering all our questions about "googie signage". Starting in the 1950 #39;s, the public became captivated by new technologies like rocket ships and nuclear energy. To draw their attention, architects began using these as motifs in their work. The Satellite Shopland "sputnik" was the creation of Clarence Meddock, the landlord of an Anaheim, California shopping mall. In the mid-60 #39;s, he built the rotating sphere in his garage after several unsuccessful attempts at getting a sign company to build it to his exacting specifications. Much to the dismay of retro sign fans, the sign was torn down in 1994 as part of Disneyland #39;s "beautification" campaign.From:keith011764Views:3 0ratingsTime:00:20More inTravel Events
