Authorities have identified a man wanted in connection with an appliance repair scam.

Michael David Henderson, whose last known address is in Pineville, is wanted for two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

According to the Statesville Police Department, there have been 30 consumer complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau concerning Henderson and he has been on the BBBs dirty dozen list of worst businesses in the southern Piedmont.

SPD Capt. D.B. Johnson, supervisor of the Criminal Investigation Division, said Henderson advertised, via a website, offering services in appliance repair. Two local residents contacted him about coming to their homes, and requested him to repair a washer in one case and a refrigerator in the other.

In both cases, the suspect came to the victims homes, looked at the appliances and told the victims he needed a part to repair the appliances, Johnson said. In each case, the victims wrote the man a check and he never returned to make the repairs. The victims, Johnson said, tried to contact the repair man and were met with disconnected phone numbers and false addresses.

The victims told police that the suspect cashed the checks they had written the next day.

Investigator Crystal Scott began a probe into the incidents, which happened in April and June, and learned the suspect identified himself as David Henderson and used two different websites for the business -- one was called Affordable Home Appliance Repair with an address on North Center Street, Statesville, and the other was called All In One Appliance Repair in Maiden.

After several months of investigation, Scott learned the suspects name and obtained warrants earlier this month.

Anyone with information about Hendersons whereabouts is asked to call the SPD at 704-878-3406 or Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340. Callers can remain anonymous and a cash reward is possible.
