Nick Vedder has constructed the Pittsburgh Remodeling Expo with the nuts and bolts of ideas.

He will have help in his job from firms such as Wilson Architecture + Design and Primrose Homes, who he thinks will make this a pretty good place to have a conversation.

The remodeling show will run from Jan. 3 to 5 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown, kicking off the season of home projects with 175 vendors and a variety of seminars and talks.

Vedder, from L&L Exhibition Management in Minneapolis, says the goal in this show is to help people understand the process of remodeling. He wants them to get a taste of looking at a job and dealing with contractors.

The company has 25 such shows scheduled across the country, with one in Portland, Ore., the same days as the one in Pittsburgh.

Vedder says homeowners often do not know how to approach a home project, and he hopes the show will help demonstrate some of the techniques they can use.

Jeff Martin says the talk from the staff at Primrose Homes will deal with the importance of the kitchen and the best ways to go about designing or redoing it.

It is the hub of the home, Martin says of the kitchen. It is the place where family and friends can spend time and enjoy each other,

The program, How to Make Your Kitchen a Showcase, will be presented at noon Jan. 4 and 5.
