The firefighters stationed there will be temporarily housed in a trailer so they can stay on-site and respond to the area, interim Fire Chief Keith Carter said.

Fire Station 5 at 1777 Manzanita Ave. is said to provide aid to more than 16,000 residents and responded to 2,000 calls last year.

The trailer is being paid for with money from the Fire Department's budget and runs about $400 a month, Carter said. The total costs for the trailer were not immediately available.

The trailer has been modified to have three beds and "everything else," but it has no kitchen, Carter said. Firefighters will have to utilize the kitchen at the Fire Training Center, 1466 Humboldt Road, if they need it.

Placing the trailer at Station 5 allows firefighters to continue covering the community without exposing them to potential risks or interrupting the work being done during the mold remediation.

Repairs by ServiceMaster by Cronic are expected to last between one to two weeks, but an exact date of completion was not available.

ServiceMaster by Cronic could not be reached by deadline.

The three spots that ServiceMaster is repairing include the area where the washer and dryer sit, behind the dishwasher and one of the upstairs bedrooms where a window was leaking. In August, tests revealed the presence of mold.
