Interior designers and architects have expressed their desire to examine the countrys commitment to sustainable urban development and issues pertaining to designs at this years Interior Design Excellence Awards and Conference billed for October.

The professionals will examine the key drivers for urban and interior design with other experts around the world with the aim of adopting best practices for the interior design and allied industries.

According to the President, Interior Designers Association of Nigeria and Publisher of Essential Interiors, organisers of the IDEA 2013, Ms. Titi Ogufere, the conference will provide thought provoking keynote presentations, best practice case studies and topical panel sessions, with the themes: Nigerias commitment to sustainable urban development and Celebrating 50 years of global interiors.

She said there were basic standards in the industry everywhere in the world, which practitioners in Nigeria must adhere to as the future of interior design looked bright in the country.

Ogufere said, This years conference will examine the key drivers for urban and interior design, with leading experts and practitioners from Nigeria and around the world gathering to discuss and demonstrate Nigerias commitment to sustainable urban development and global interiors.

Our respected panel of speakers consists of exceptional organisations and individuals who, having identified the power and practicality of urban design, continue to deliver improvement and quality outcomes as award-winning industry leaders.

The IDEA, according to her, was set up to reward excellence in the architecture and interior design industry in recognition of the talents, contributions and success of design in the country, and to create an avenue for discussing issues that will shape the future of the industry and the built environment.

She said, It aims to help participants distinguish themselves within the design community and among the public; to advance the interior design profession through international recognition; to contribute to the value, health and safety of the nations built environment; to provide an ethical platform for architects and designers with varied skills and areas of specialisation to develop their trade and industry; and to provide them with a global audience to showcase proudly Nigerian innovations.

Through its efforts, the standard of regional designs will be elevated to an international level.

The Chief Executive Officer, AD Consulting, Mrs. Olajumoke Adenowo, said IDEA would raise the bar about architects whose functions in the society were often not understood.
