The mess left behind after a fire that happened months ago at the Sharon Place Shopping Center in Newburgh is soon to be cleaned up.

Demolition is set to begin Wednesday at the shopping center near the intersection of Sharon Road and State Road.

Residents and nearby businesses have been looking at the mess for months and are glad to hear progress is being made to clear all of this debris.

An overnight fire last November destroyed the building and all of the businesses inside. Business owners were allowed in the next day to gather what they could and later it was blocked off to everyone.

Some of the businesses have relocated, others are hoping to re-open in the same location, and for some the fire put them out of business.

We are told the owner plans to rebuild.
