Musical Sculptures: Jan Henrik Hansen at TEDxZurich
Music is an intangible force that can be seen as a powerful transmitter of emotion and content as it permeates almost every human culture and space today. With a background in music and being a student of architecture Jan Henrik Hansen started exploring the relationship of music and bodies in space. Could music be translated into forms and spaces and inspire them with its unique qualities? And could they be translated back again? He presents a report from a journey into musical space that started 13 years ago that is far from being over. Jan holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zrich. He has been teaching and researching at the Chair for Architecture and Digital Fabrication with Professors Gramazio Kohler at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zrich and gained considerable experience with digital and robotic fabrication strategies and infrastructure. In 2002 he became a founding member and CEO of WHIST Architects in Zurich. In 2010 he founded Studio Jan Henrik Hansen to create an independent domain for his art projects and collaborations as an artist with other artists and architects. His artistic work focuses in particular on the transformation of music into space with a unique and patented digital technique he has been developing since 1999.
