He was accompanied by his private secretary Helmi Yahya, Wisma Darulaman chief administrative assistance (Finance) Ahmad Sazali Md Noor and his personal bodyguard.

Azizan, who appeared visibly weak upon arrival, appeared before Judicial Commissioner See Mee Chin in the courts chamber.

Also appearing before See was the Kota Star district land administrator Zaid Ahmad, who is also named as a defendant in the suit filed by the Save Madrasah Salihiah action committee.

They were represented by lawyers from the State Legal Advisors office Fariza Ahmad and Masri Azizan while Counsel Jesvinder Jit Singh appeared on behalf of the committee.

On Oct 3, the committee had filed an ex-parte application for a committal proceeding against Azizan and Zaid.

They alleged the defendants had committed contempt of court over the transfer of a title for a plot of land where the madrasah was built when the injunction application to stop the proposed demolition, to make way for the RM500 million Aman Central shopping-cum-residential project, was being carried out.

They claimed the land was transferred to a subsidiary of Penang-based Belleview Group, the contractor of the multimillion-ringgit project.

Azizan, when met by reporters after about an hour inside the court's chamber, said there was nothing unusual about him attending the proceedings.

This is normal. Even Mahathir (former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and Hosni Mubarak (former Egyptian president) had attended court hearing before," he said.
