New Play Units For Windsor Parks
October 24, 2012 - Imagination is a big player in the new play structures being introduced into Windsor parks. Starting Wednesday, Oct. 24 the first of four new playground units will be installed. Designed with new materials, CSA safety standards, and the latest accessibility features, the play units are colorful, multi-level, and multipurpose centres for creative play. "The City of Windsor is reviewing all the existing play units to determine which ones are most appropriate for today #39;s parks," explains Mike Clement, Manager of Parks Development, for the City of Windsor. "Our long-term plan is to feature themed play units in community/regional parks with designs that complement the location." "Everyone is familiar with swings and slides," says Heidi Baillargeon, Landscape Architect in Parks and Recreation, "But the new designs encourage interactive imaginative games. Steering wheels at the top of the structures entice youngsters to become masters of their space -- sometimes a pirate or a fireman, a train engineer, or an airplane pilot. Climbing ropes, towers, bridges all add to the opportunities for creative play." Each play unit installation will take approximately one week, weather permitting.
