The original stain on this home has faded, become dull and started to peal in some areas. Home owner Mary Robbins wants a fresh new look. She has selected a darker wood stain and wants to create more contrast with the white chinking. Transparent stains of course are used on log homes to maintain the beauty and character of the wood, all the old stain must be removed to insure a uniform look. Just like a piece of old furniture, the wood has to be brought back to it #39;s natural state before applying a new stain. Here on day one, Stu and the Total Deck Care crew will start the log home restoration process with cleaning and removing the stain from all the logs. For two days the crew has worked hard cleaning and removing the old stain. . We can see the difference now, and our log home is starting to transform, but there is much more work to be done before applying new stain. On day 3, the crew will start the long and tedious task of sanding down each log. The stain removal agent is not always 100%. So any traces of old stain will now be hand sanded out. The power wash can be rough on the wood so the crew will also sand to provide a smooth surface for the finish. This will insure a clean and uniform look.
