BAY CITY, MI - A Columbus area neighborhood will see improvements this year thanks to a project that will demolish multiple dilapidated and blighted properties.

A neighborhood revitalization agreement between the Bay City Housing Commission, the City of Bay City and the Bay County Treasurer was approved earlier this month.

The Bay City Housing Commission approached the city and the Bay County treasurer to work in a collaborative project to acquire, demolish, and rehabilitate properties in a target area.

Seven properties are in the agreement. Two houses are owned by the Bay City through tax foreclosure while four others are owned by Bay County. One property is a vacant lot that sits adjacent to one of the city owned blighted homes.

The houses that will be demolished as a part of the project are located at the following addresses:

- 108 N. Monroe, county owned

- 109 S. Madison, county owned

- 115 N. Grant, county owned

- 206 N. Jefferson, county owned

- 234 N. Jefferson, city owned

- 232 N. Jefferson (vacant lot), city owned

- 406 10th Street, city owned

The terms of the agreement state that the Housing Commission offered to fund up to $120,000 for the acquisition, environmental testing, abatement and demotion cost of the city and county owned properties. The Housing Commission will then acquire properties, after the sites have been environmentally tested, at a cost of $100.

Bay City is expected to aid in coordination of asbestos and environmental testing, handle request for bids and oversee demolition.
