Allowing arches and trellises on fences and establishing fines for code violations are on the agenda for theGretna City Council Wednesday (April 8). The council's agenda looks pretty light for the meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, Huey P. Long Avenue and Second Street.

The council will award a contract for demolition of the Dick White Center at Mel Ott Park. It also will award a contract to buy chemicals for the water treatment plant.

Here are three otherissues to watch.

Fence ordinance: The council will consider a maximum height of 8 feet for fences adorned with gateway arbors and trellises on residential property. Councilman Joe Marino III said the Historic District Commission received requests to add the design elements but the ordinance did not provide direction on the issue.

Hearing procedures: An amendment governing administrative hearings for health, housing, fire and historic district code violations establishes a fine of $100 to $250 for a first offense. Repeat offenders would face a maximum $500 penalty.

State funding: The council will authorize Mayor Belinda Constant to sign agreements with the state for capital outlay money to pay for two projects. They are for $640,000 for the Stumpf Boulevard force main project and $115,000 to Jefferson Parish water line connection work.
