ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A 33-year-old man who died after he crashed his sports car into a concrete retaining wall in south Escondido was identified Friday.

Eric Robert Anderson of Escondido was alone in his silver Nissan 50Z when he crashed the small vehicle into a concrete retaining wall in the area of Via Rancho Parkway and Camino del Postigo around 10:10 p.m. Thursday, according to Escondido police Lt. Justin Murphy.

"(He) was driving westbound on Via Rancho Parkway from the area of Interstate 15 at a high rate of speed," Murphy said in a statement. "It appears Anderson lost control of the vehicle and hit the retaining wall while in a sideways uncontrolled skid, with the impact causing the car to flip onto the roof."

Anderson suffered significant head injuries for which he was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by emergency room staff, Murphy said, adding alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
