The massive tree fell onto four rowhomes in the 2400 block of Druid Park Drive, near Hilldale Place, sometime before 9:30 a.m.

The front porches and roofs of some of the homes suffered most of the damage. On one home, the brick and wood were exposed, and the inside of the home was visible.

Marie Skeen, her son and their neighbors were not harmed when a tree on city property next to her home gave way, damaging roofs and destroying the front porches of four houses Monday morning.

"That's a true miracle," Skeen said. "I was in the room. I was ironing. I walked out of the room like two seconds later, and I heard this loud crash around. The house shook; everything shook. So immediately, I thought it was a truck or maybe snow plow running up on the ground."

Skeen looked out the window and saw the destruction caused by the fallen tree.

"I was saying 'thank God' because we could have been in the room sleeping. It could have (fallen) on the front of the house, and thank God that it didn't," Skeen said.

A work crew removed the debris. As heavy machinery lifted branches and parts of the trunk, an inspector assessed the damage.

Skeen said she had called the city over the past three years trying to get something done about the tree.
