DETROIT (WWJ) In the latest national study, Detroit placed second on a list for the worst cities for bed bugs.

The pest control company Orkin recently released the rankings based on the number of bedbug treatments it performed from January to December 2014. Chicago came in No. 1 in thethird annual report. Detroit moved up two spots from 4th place in the 2013 ranking.

Bed bugs are a serious issue across the country, and theyre very difficult to control, Orkin Entomologist and Technical Services Director Ron Harrisonsaid.Bed bugs are not limited to any level of cleanliness or income, which means they can be found in any home or hotel. Theyre great hitchhikers, and people often bring them inside on their clothes or in their luggage.

The Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek area also made the list, coming in at No. 20 up from the No. 33 in 2013.
