KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A new roofing replacement bid for schools in the Kirksville District were recently approved by the school board.

That bid for $555,946 comes from Missouri Builders, Inc. of Jefferson City. The buildings that will be receiving partial roof replacements are Kirksville High School and the Primary School.

The board gave the ok for the company to do two additional projects to save money on repairs in the future. Those are: The replacement of roofing over the stage at the Primary School, and the construction of an enclosed ladder to provide access to the roof. Board members all agreed that the roof replacement is something that needs to happen now, in order to avoid further deterioration.

"At this point in time, at the High School, you go walking through and look at the gym and you can see big spots, water stains on the gym roof. It's incredibly important to replace the roof to help protect the floor," said Dr. Damon Kizzire, Kirksville Schools Superintendent.

Dr. Kizzire told KTVO that the roofing project is expected to take place next summer.
