Its a peculiar condition, but some people have super-sensitive noses. My daughter, for example. This is a typical exchange at my house.

Me: Hello, darling. So nice to see you.

Darling: EWWW, whats that SMELL! Her standard greeting. I bet shed use that line at an aromatherapy session.

I always think: Funny, I dont smell anything. Am I getting like those crazy cat ladies? My nose has been on the job for decades. It raised a bunch of kids so its certainly had a workout and may be getting ready to throw in the Kleenex.

I found this out recently when I actually got talked into experiencing aromatherapy. The operator fanned the air under my nose while holding up tiny vials of various substances like lavender, mint, cinnamon and something called patchouli. No idea what that is. It sounds like a sneeze.

And the sad truth is, I couldnt tell them apart. But the fact that my nose may be ready for Medicare doesnt mean there isnt something in the air for Nasalgirl to detect.

Despite my best efforts at ventilation, this woman smells hamburgers cooking from last month, furniture polish of a brand I havent used in years, even Stainaway from the time her geriatric dog threw up on the rug when it was a puppy. Darling missed a great career in the perfume industry.

The other day when The Nose was here with her kid, my now-and-then executive household assistant ran in from the garage holding her nose and doing fake gagging. EWWWW! she vocalized. Theres a horrible, awful smell in there and I cant figure out where its coming from.

This was not a job for Superschnozz. This one was all too obvious. The worst possible images immediately hit the braindead rat, rotting food, raccoon poop, how did that horse get in here? And so on.

Everyone immediately set to work to find and eliminate the source. They did this by running around holding their noses and going EW! EW!, BARF! PEW! GAG! GAG! ACK! UHH! before disappearing. You know who was the designated smellfinder.
