LUMBERTON The Robeson County Board of Commissioners is expected to consider bids for a roof replacement project at the Robeson County Detention Center on Monday.

Anderson Engineering & Associates, the Lumberton engineering firm overseeing the roof project bidding process, is recommending that Allied Roofing Company Inc. be awarded the project for a total cost of $860,560.

A new roof for the jail has been needed for more than two years. Earlier this year, Leroy Scott, the countys Public Buildings director, said the cost of a new roof for the 25-year-old building could exceed $900,000.

Both Scott and Robeson County Sheriff Ken Sealey have said that if the roof is not soon replaced, the state will eventually mandate that the work be done.

The commissioners on Monday will also:

Hold a public hearing on a grant Monarch is applying for from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The grant request is for federal money provided through the Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program.

Monarch currently receives money through this program for use in several counties, including Robeson. The grant application is due Nov. 21.

Michael Lee, program manager for Monarch, will be present at Mondays meeting to answer questions about the application.

Convene as the countys Housing Authority Board to handle public housing matters. The authority is currently having to develop a plan for addressing U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development concerns that federal guidelines and procurement regulations have not been followed.

Mondays meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the county administration building on North Elm Street.
