A true leader in the local building industry, Richard Cook has been committed to custom building since he started remodeling homes in 1974. A longtime member and past president of the Northwest Indiana Home Builders Association (HBA), he was one of the first to become a Certified Green Professional through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) program, which was introduced in 2008.

Our ultimate goal has always been to provide a home that is equally as beautiful as it is comfortable, he says. Many people dont realize that you can incorporate green, energy-conscious building practices that improve comfort while reducing gas and electric consumption without significantly driving up the cost of construction by making the right choices.

As the companys list of clients grew, it wasnt long before a handful of them asked Cook Builders to design and build their next home. As a result, the company earned a stellar reputation for building high-end custom homes throughout Northwest Indiana.

Then, as they focused more and more on new construction, Rich Cook and his hand-selected team of homebuilding experts were honored to be the builder of choice for their clients friends and families. The best part, according to Cook, is the fact that every home is custom, including the companys more affordable homes.

People like new homes - its still the American dream, he says. We work hard with and for our homeowners, and it seems to work out well for everyone. The fact that we are able to build such a wide range of homes for people with such varying incomes is an indicator of that fact.

Building a home can be a pretty daunting process, especially if youre doing it for the first time. Were finding our new online portal that shows whats going on at every point to be a very big help. It guides our homeowners along, every step of the way, and once they see that screen full of big green checks, its a huge relief.

Currently building luxury homes in Munster (Community Estates), Crown Point (Ellendale Farm and Feather Rock) and St. John (Three Springs and Lake Hills), Cook Builders is also in the process of completing an entire street in Dyers Emerald Crossing.

I would have to say we are busier than we ever have been right now, Cook says. We have a model open from 12-4pm on Saturday and Sunday in Emerald Crossing where we can build a completely custom home starting in the $250s (maintenance-free cottage homes start in the $220s).
