It's a cold and windy September afternoon but you wouldn't know it sitting in the Papas' beautifully decorated family room. Framed by full-length windows and high ceilings the home takes full advantage of the aspect.

Designed by Terry Ring of Architects Ring & Associates, the attention to detail in this spectacular Mugga Way home is astonishing and it's the well-deserved winner of this year's Master Builders ACT Home of the Year.

Vicky and Paul Papas have been living on the golden mile since May 2013 after almost 40 years in the inner south.

"We wanted to build a one-storey home and it was hard to find a block that was the right size," Mrs Papas says.

Mr Papas, a painter, and Mrs Papas, a colour consultant, with their company Papas Painting Contractors put their skills to good use when decorating the home. Every detail has been carefully selected to create an atmosphere of warmth throughout the home.

They each have their favourite parts of the property. The wine cellar is Mr Papas' pride and joy and he also enjoys spending time in his backyard putting green. Mrs Papas is the chef of the family and loves the expansive kitchen and the home's capacity for entertaining.

The home has been cleverly designed so the sparkling swimming pool is visible from every room in the house. It has a seamless open-plan design which makes it ideal for large gatherings.
