EASTON, Pa. -

Drivers should anticipate traffic delays lasting up to 15 minutes during overnight hours along both directions of Route 22 at the Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge through Aug. 8.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced the travel restrictions are needed to allow contractors to remove painting containment and overhead platform apparatus that had been installed as part of a two-year rehabilitation project at the busy toll bridge.

Stoppages of up to 15 minutes may occur at any time during the following periods:

Weeknights (Sunday to Thursday) -- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.; Friday night -- 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Saturday 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Anyone planning to use Route 22 is advised to allow extra time to reach destinations or use alternative routes.

Fourth Street in Easton is the stoppage point for Route 22 eastbound traffic.

The toll plaza in Phillipsburg is the stoppage point for Route 22 westbound traffic.

The two-tier painting platform and various containment measures being removed consist of chain-link fencing, tarps, outriggers, cables and multiple fasteners.

The interconnected structure was suspended over the bridges traffic lanes, giving travelers the impression of driving through a tunnel instead of over a bridge.
