LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists that the left lane of southbound Interstate 65 in Bullitt County will be closed daily for the next two weeks. Contract crews will be constructing a median cross-over just south of the KY 61 (Preston Highway) overpass in preparation for road construction to move north in the coming weeks.

The left lane of southbound I-65 will be closed between mile points 118 and 117 beginning today and continuing for approximately two weeks. The lane closures will occur daily from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

This work is part of $20.7 million project for removal and replacement of various sections of concrete pavement across a 20-mile section of I-65. Construction began in March and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2014.

Work is currently underway between mile points 106 and 112. Two lanes of traffic are being maintained in each direction through the use of a temporary median cross-over. One lane of southbound traffic is shifted to the northbound lanes while crews replace the pavement in the southbound lanes (see schematic below). Southbound traffic is separated from southbound traffic by a concrete median barrier wall.

Southbound I-65 motorists exiting at KY 245 (Exit 112) must stay in the right lane during this phase of construction.

The speed limit in the work zone is reduced to 55 MPH and double fines are being enforced.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Dial 511 or log on to 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
