GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

It's becoming more and more of a common sight on the news - crooks, caught on camera stealing from people's homes.

Whether seen by "night vision" cameras or whether it's clear as day, the crucial moments caught on those cameras have slowly become the new normal for homeowners looking to keep their stuff safe.

"It will become the way of the world," said Deveren Werne, of Liquid Video Technologies, a security business that specializes in video surveillance.

Werne said business has been booming in home surveillance in the last four years.

"People are putting it in their homes more easily because the price is coming down," he said. "It's easier to install, it's not complicated."

It's still not cheap. Common security systems available by retail start around $200-300 dollars and go up to around $700.

Insurance agents told FOX Carolina that you're likely not to get much of a discount on your insurance with the system installation.

"Most of the time it varies between companies, but it's not substantial," said insurance agent Charlie Byars of R. Carl Byars Agency.

Byars said that's likely to change as time goes on, but in the interim, Byars said, "in the long run, you could see savings if it did prevent a claim."
