GILES CO., Va. -

Route 460 in both directions is down to one lane in Giles County because of a failed retaining wall.

The left westbound lane and the left eastbound lane are closed in the area known as the bluffs between Rich Creek and Narrows. That's about two miles east of the West Virginia border.

The closure is expected to be in place for several days.

Here is the news release from VDOT:

About a mile of Route 460 in Giles County between Route 61 and Route 643 (Stateline Road) is reduced to one lane in each direction due to a failed retaining wall.

The left westbound lane and the left eastbound lane are closed in the area known as the bluffs between Rich Creek and Narrows.

The closure is located about two miles east of the West Virginia state line.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will need to perform repairs on the damaged wall before the lanes of Route 460 can reopen.

No exact time for reopening the lanes has been established, but it is expected to be a long-term closure lasting several days.
