CUMMING Some relief has arrived for those doing business in downtown Cumming.

Gerald Blackburn, Cumming city administrator, confirmed that the Castleberry Road parking deck was officially opened to the public Friday morning.

The deck is one of two in the downtown area being built as part of the $100-million courthouse and jail projects. Voters approved funding for the facilities in 2012 as part of an extension of the 1-cent sales tax.

The second deck is going up on Mason Street, next door to the Forsyth County Administration Building. Crews have been preparing the site for the past few weeks.

As for the Castleberry deck, motorists have an additional 222 parking spots in the three-level structure.

In addition, the city of Cumming is resurfacing the adjacent ground parking lot.

The Mason Street deck will be a five-level, 491-space facility.

A map with additional daytime public parking can be found at http://www.forsythco.com.
