The girls' lacrosse season is in full swing, complete with plenty of new story lines among local teams.

The area boasts one new varsity squad, a developing second-year team, a coaching change and a lot of new additions to the familiar local powers.

Nashoba

The Chieftains will likely have another strong year. Graduation dealt a little hit, but athletes choosing other sports might have hurt a little bit more.

"We have two of three starters from last year that can't play this year," Nashoba co-head coach Tammy Fortune said. "We have a smaller team, with only 16 girls. A lot of them are starters and the others are getting a lot of playing time, so every player has the chance to make an impact in nearly every game.

Brittany Joseph returns after leading the team in scoring last year. Abbie McCaffrey and Sam O'Connor round out the remaining senior captains. Kaitlyn Thorogood and Karleigh Elkins are key contributors, while Cori Gillen is a first-year senior who finds herself in a starting role.
