A 41-year-old plumber, Jubril Martins, was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a 29-year-old student, Ahmed Yusuf.

A resident of No. 13, Peter Imokuwede St., Badore area of Ajah, Lagos, Martins is being tried for assault occasioning harm.

The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Nwankpuma, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 5 at Gerard Junction, Ikoyi.

He said Martins stabbed Yusuf with a broken bottle during an argument and injured his hands.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Yusuf was in court as a prosecution witness, while the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Section 171 prescribes three years imprisonment for assault occasioning harm.

The Magistrate, Mrs C. Momodu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case to March 24 for mention.
