PLANS for a Worcester community fun day have been handed a big boost.
Three companies have agreed to sponsor St Peters Festival and will provide a financial contribution to the event and run stands on the day.
Edwards Motors, of Main Road, Kempsey, Dream Doors of The Tything, Worcester, and Griffiths, the contractors carrying out work on the southern link road at the Ketch roundabout, are getting involved in the community celebration.
St Peters Festival will take place on Sunday, June 28, at Power Park in Worcester.
Activities including a mammoth inflatable slide, face painting and crazy golf are being planned for the day alongside a live DJ, Morris dancers and barbecue food.
A number of local schools have also been approached to see if their children would like to entertain the crowds with musical performances on the day.
Councillor Brenda Wheeler, of St Peters Parish Council, which is planning the festival, told Your Worcester News last year: There will be fun and entertainment for the community and we want the day to be open to everyone in St Peters.
It will bring people closer together and help residents make friends with their neighbours.
With all that is going on with the road works near St Peters the festival will give people something to look forward to.

A keen young job seeker who has failed to find full time work despite sending off 50 job applications has offered himself up on eBay as a live-in maid-for a month in a bid to improve his CV.

The determined jobseeker says he will 'do anything asked of him,' and can do everything from cooking bacon butties, cutting hair, cooking and cleaning to moving hazardous waste for his potential employers.

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. An injured man whose calls for help were heard on the American side of the Niagara River Gorge was rescued Tuesday morning by Canadian emergency services crews.
Niagara Parks Police said they were notified at about 6 a.m. Tuesday that a man was calling for help in the vicinity of Hiram Street. Staff from the Maid of the Mist, on the American side of the gorge, heard those calls and reported them to New York State Parks Police.
Members of Niagara Parks Police Service High Angle River Team, the Niagara Falls Fire Department and Niagara Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
The man, with a sleeping bag, was found in the gorge a short time later, Niagara Parks Police said. Its believed he may have fallen from the gorge wall.
The man, who was conscious and speaking with emergency personnel throughout the rescue, was brought to safety at about 8:30 a.m. and taken to a hospital, police said. The extent of his injuries are unknown, police said, and the incident remains under investigation.

Nick Ledgard, left, and Ray Goldring are leading the fight against wilding contorta pine in the Waimakariri Basin.
Almost 50 years after he helped plant contorta pines to control erosion, retired forestry scientist Nick Ledgard is back in the South Island high country leading the fight to stop their alarming spread.
The fast-growing - but commercially useless - pine variety is marching across landscapes from Otago to Waikato and is high on the list of pest species of many regional councils.
It is especially virulent in the Waimakariri Basin, between Porters and Arthur's passes in an area very close to where firefighters are today battling a massive fire. That area where Ledgard, along with members of Welra, the Waimakariri Ecological and Landscape Restoration Alliance, is concentrating his efforts is on the opposite side of State Highway 73 from today's huge blaze is being battled.
Nick Ledgard
BEFORE: A small patch of contorta was planted on Helicopter Hill in the Waimakariri basin near Flock Hill in the 1960s to control erosion.
As a young scientist in the 1960s, Ledgard was part of a team planting experimental plots on Helicopter Hill in the Waimakariri Basin, looking for species to control what was perceived to be a serious erosion threat.
In contorta they seemed to have found an answer; it would grow and thrive at high altitudes and hold the ground together.
But it was soon realised that contorta had the ability to spread far from the original site thanks to its light windborne seeds that could germinate on virtually any open ground.

Orang Asli can monitor illegal logging and land clearing said to be a primary factor in the massive floods in Kelantan.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Orang Asli community in Kelantan should be appointed as honorary or volunteer rangers to monitor illegal logging and illegal land clearing in the state.
Minister in the Prime Ministers Department Shahidan Kassim said the government could help the community by opening nurseries to provide them some additional income.
We employ the Orang Asli to plant trees and help with the surveillance and monitoring of illegal logging and land clearing, he told reporters after launching the Undergraduates Parliamentary Session organised by the Malaysian Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) at Parliament House yesterday.
Mubarak president Abdul Aziz Rahman was also present at the event.
The two-day session co-organised by Mubarak, International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and the Education Ministry was chaired by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.
Excessive illegal logging and land clearing activities were said to be among the primary factors contributing towards the massive floods in Kelantan.
