A LEADING architects practice has strengthened its team further as it tackles some of the regions most dynamic projects.
Mark Morley has joined Niven Architects, a Darlington-based family firm.
He follows the appointment of senior consultant Peter Hodges who joined as a director as the practice enjoys burgeoning success with some of the regions biggest projects.
A senior architect with some of the North-Easts premier schemes under his belt, Mr Morley will help the senior management team oversee a varied portfolio of significant projects including an in-patient unit at St Teresas Hospice, in Darlington, the town's Feethams Leisure development and a housing scheme on the edge of the town.
The firm recently won a number of UK and international design awards, with a key focus on BIM (Building Information Management) and sustainability.
Director Simon Crowe said: Marks key, strategic appointment is the first of a number of design roles that we hope to make. We have developed a business plan aligned with current and prospective workload that will see the practice grow in stature and turnover during the next three years.
Marks role is fundamentally important to the growth plan as he brings with him a wealth of experience in design and project delivery alongside a very strong and respected relationship with key clients.
Mr Morley, who lives in Hartlepool with his partner Lisa and two children, added: Its an exciting time for the practice with Niven currently involved in a number of really interesting projects.
Im particularly looking forward to becoming involved in Niven Architects new company, BIM Strategies Ltd, which provides services to consultants, clients and the manufacturing supply chain.

The new year is here, and the Starr Family Home State Historic Site has a slate of activities lined up for families to enjoy.
After years of restoration work, people arent used to us being active at the site. So, people are getting used to us doing stuff (again), Site Manager Barbara Judkins said Thursday during the County Historical Commission meeting.
In addition to doing a lot of research at the site, she said, the staff has scheduled a year full of activities to engage the community.
On Saturday, the site will conduct a free workshop titled How to Care for and Store Old Photographs. Discussion will center around preservation and a brief history of photography. The session also will include a show-and-tell segment with suggestions, resources and examples of what not to do.
Its from 9 to 12, and free, said Judkins. Well have it again in June.
On Thursday, families are invited to come out for a special star gazing party, featuring professional astronomers with the Astronomical Society of East Texas from Tyler.
Theyre very excited about it, Judkins said, adding that she delivered 1,200 fliers to Marshall Independent School District to attract students and their families to the event.
She said all families in the community are invited to come for a night of fun and education.
It really doesnt have a lot to do with our historical message, but stargazing is historical, Judkins said. We just thought itd be a nice (event) for families something free and educational for families so its really more about doing a service to the community.
The stargazing party will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

January 9, 2015 - International League (IL) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Moosic, Pa. - A slew of familiar faces and two noteworthy additions will make up the 2015 field staff for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees). Manager Dave Miley, pitching coach Scott Aldred, athletic trainer Darren London and strength & conditioning coach Lee Tressel will again mentor, mend and develop the players that call NEPA their summer home. The additions come from within the organization with hitting coach Marcus Thames and defensive coach Justin Tordi.
Miley, who was named Manager of the Year for all of minor league baseball in 2012 by Baseball America, enters his ninth season as the skipper in SWB and 10th with the Bombers' Triple-A unit. The 2014 inductee into the IL Hall of Fame also called the shots during the Yankees' final campaign in Columbus (2006). This marks year six with the squad for Aldred, who pitched in the bigs for nine seasons. London, the International League's Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2006 and 2012, has spent more than two decades as the Yankees' Triple-A athletic trainer with this season marking his 23rd at the level and 27th in a row with the organization. Tressel enters his 12th year in pinstripes and his seventh with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Thames, 37, was a 30th-round pick by the Yankees in 1996 before spending a decade in the big leagues with the Yankees (2002, 2010), Texas Rangers (2003), Detroit Tigers (2004-09) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2011). The corner outfielder belted the first of his 115 homers in his first MLB at-bat against 2015 Hall-of-Fame inductee Randy Johnson. Thames assembled a career line of .246/.309/.485/.794. He still owns Detroit's franchise record for best at-bat/HR ratio on a career at 14.8. He spent the 2014 season as the hitting coach with Double-A Trenton and served in the same role with Advanced-A Tampa in 2013. He played 314 games in the International League including a four-game SWB stint in 2010.
Tordi, 30, was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 41st round of the 2005 draft out of the University of Florida. He spent last season as a first-base/bench coach with Low-A Charleston. The Rochester Hills, Mich. native played first, second, third, short, caught and pitched over his four seasons in the minors with the Reds. He reached Double-A both in 2008 and 2009 with Chattanooga and Carolina respectively. He earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2005 for the national runner-up Florida Gators as the team's shortstop.
The RailRiders open their 2015 season at home on April 9 against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals). For more information please call (570) 969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.

ESCANABA - With County Administrator Nora Viau's retirement tentatively scheduled for this spring, qualifications for her successor were discussed in a committee of the whole meeting at the Delta County Service Center Thursday.
No official decisions were made at Thursday's meeting, which was held primarily to give committee members a chance to discuss the process of hiring a new administrator.
"I want to keep it very informal," Board Chair Mary Harrington said.
The qualifications for Viau's successor will be based on those used for her appointment, which were last updated in 2009.
These will likely include a master's degree in business or public administration (or a closely-related field with specialization in accounting and/or management) and three to five years of relevant experience, preferably with a governmental entity.
The possibility of forming a committee to oversee the process of reviewing applicants' resumes was also discussed during Thursday's meeting.
Harrington said she and Viau will complete the first draft of an advertisement next week, which will be used to solicit applicants for the position.
"Here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to get with Nora, we're going to write an ad, (and) I'm going to get the ad back to you," Harrington said.
Once the advertisement has been completed and approved by the members of the Delta County Board of Commissioners, it will be posted with Michigan Works!, the Michigan Association of Counties, and the Daily Press.
A job description for the county administrator position will be finalized in a later meeting.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - When the temperatures drop, one bill that usually rises is the heating bill.
Now, a new program by Consumers Energy is helping some homeowners keep those bills in check.
The Helping Neighbors program will send an energy expert to the home of a qualified resident and will search from the basement to the attic for ways to help homeowners save money.
They'll check the heating and cooling systems, water spigots, and make suggestions.
"Directly install measures that will help the customer reduce the energy use in the house, and therefore saving them money," explained Darlene Kusterer, with Consumers Energy.
There are certain income and household requirements for the program.

SALINE -- Homeowner Services of America (HSA Remodeling) and First Design Cabinetry is marking its 30-year anniversary with a special opporunity to all 2015 clients to win 30 percent back on project costs up to $10,000.
This will be done by holding a celebration party in January 2016 where every client will have their name entered into a drawing. A non-partisan person will then draw the winning name and a check will be written to the winner at that time. One does not have to be present to win.
Clients who have signed contracts with either HSA Remodeling or First Design Cabinetry but whose work has not yet been completed will also be entered in the drawing. If their name is drawn the check will be held until the project is completed according to the terms of the contract.
Amounts paid directly to HSA Remodeling or First Design Cabinetry will be used to determine the value of the amount returned, up to $10,000, to the winning project. Clients who contract for more than one project during the year will be entered for each project undertaken.
We have been pleased and honored to serve the areas homeowners with remodels and additions for the last 30 years, said David Rhoads, founder, owner and president. It is our loyal clients who have made our success possible. We can think of no better way to celebrate our 30th anniversary than to provide our clients with the opportunity for a significant reward.
