Chemically speaking, EPDM is basically ethylene propylene diene monomer and was first developed in the 1960's and has since been a great solution within its niche of industries. The drying properties of the EPDM are depended on the prevailing air temperature and oxygen availability. The curing mechanism in this product will therefore vary depending on the air temperature. Although the material can be put on at any temperature; oxygen is required to activate the hardener. The curative properties of the EPDM Liquid rubber will therefore change from inactive to active and back as temperature changes. Quite frankly Liquid Roof can be applied at freezing temperature but it wont cure until it gets above 55. In fact a newly coated roof can be exposed to ponding water and if the temperature of the water is above 55 it will actually cure underwater. You will also be pleased to learn that the physical and protective properties of Liquid EPDM are not compromised even during temperature swings. You cant say that about any other product! Liquid EPDM takes a relatively shorter time of about 3-5 days to dry and cure your RV roof. As mentioned however, this time is depended on temperature.

TRAVERSE CITY - Scientists who have reported that the Great Lakes are awash in tiny bits of plastic are raising new alarms about a little-noticed form of the debris turning up in sampling nets: synthetic fibers from garments, cleaning cloths and other consumer products.

They are known as "microfibers" - exceedingly fine filaments made of petroleum-based materials such as polyester and nylon that are woven together into fabrics.

"When we launder our clothes, some of the little microfibers will break off and go down the drain to the wastewater treatment facility and end up in our bodies of water," Sherri "Sam" Mason, a chemist with the State University of New York at Fredonia, said Friday.

The fibers are so minuscule that people typically don't realize their favorite pullover fleece can shed thousands of them with every washing, as the journal Environmental Science & Technology reported in 2011.

Over the past couple of years, Mason and colleagues have documented the existence of microplastic litter - some too small to see with the naked eye - in the Great Lakes. Among the particles are abrasive beads used in personal care products such as facial and body washes and toothpastes. Other researchers have made similar finds in the oceans.

A number of companies are replacing microbeads with natural substances such as ground-up fruit pits. Illinois imposed a statewide ban on microbeads last year. Similar measures were proposed in California and New York.

But microfibers have gotten comparatively little attention. They've accounted for about 4 percent of the plastic litter that Mason and her students have collected from the Great Lakes. The group drags finely meshed netting along the lake surfaces, harvesting tens of thousands of particles per square mile, and study them with microscopes.

About three-quarters of the bits they've found are fragments of larger items such as bottles. Smaller portions consist of microbeads, Styrofoam and other materials.

But when Mason's team and a group from the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant program took samples from southern Lake Michigan in 2013, about 12 percent of the debris consisted of microfibers. It's unclear why the fibers were three times as prevalent in that area as elsewhere in the lakes, although currents and wave actions may be one explanation, said Laura Kammin, pollution prevention specialist with Sea Grant.

Tenants in one Queens building are dealing without heat as temperatures stay cold in the city. NY1's Michael Herzenberg filed the following report.

"Its very cold in here, you have to go to bed with robes and socks. Thats crazy because there's no heat, said Woodside resident Earlene Jenkins.

Jenkins says her heat doesn't work.

It's not cold in her Woodside Public Houses apartment, but she says that's because she constantly boils water on her stove which fire officials say is unsafe and she uses a space heater.

The pipe in the bathroom is hot to the touch, but the rest of the radiators aren't.

It's much the same scene from the first floor to the sixth floor of her building and Jenkins says she's worried about her 91-year-old father who lives with her.

"How dare they not give my father, 91 years old, heat. How dare they. He has to walk around with robes, she said.

"There's no heat, it's terrible, said her father.

"They said they would come and fix it and nothing has been about it, said resident Luis Bernal. They did come but they said everything would be fine and they're still no heat at all.

NYCHA says building 31-49 was experience gas pressure problem that has been fixed. Officials say they will continue to check on the apartments but residents are skeptical of any real improvements.
