(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) To understand how Feng Shui works you first must understand your destiny.

I work with many clients who feel that implementing Feng Shui will change their lives overnight. They will win a lottery find a great job and live in a palace for the rest of their lives. Some even hire multiple inexperienced consultants who will give them contradictory information. They end up implementing all these contradictory changes and as a result they create more confusion and chaos in their lives. One client in India was so desperate to become rich that he bought hundreds of books on Feng Shui and started implementing everything by himself. Needless to say he went bankrupt within a few months and remained depressed for years to come.

Many people ask me if Feng Shui really works. And if it does then how come it brings great results for some while some see no significant change in their lives

To understand how Feng Shui works you first must understand your destiny. Dont get me wrong I dont believe in good luck and superstitions. By your destiny I mean your life path.

Every person is born with a life and a destiny that has been specially chalked out for him or her. The first one third of your destiny is fixed. By that I mean it will be deciding who your family will be your parents sisters brothers children. This part is constant and cant be altered at all.

The second third is your environment. Who you associate yourself with where you live what your environment consists of. For example in one office there are two cabins. One cabin has air-conditioning and one has only a fan. During the hot summer months it would be easier for the person working in air-conditioned office to work long hours. While the person working in the office with a fan will struggle to cope. However if he remains focused and dedicated then he will be able to get through the summer months. This is a classic example of how some of us have supportive surroundings while some dont. Feng Shui falls into this one third your environment or surroundings. Some choose to implement it and some dont.

The last third of your destiny is karma or your actions. How hard you work and how motivated you are will decide how far you will go.

Continuing to work hard and balancing your environment through Feng Shui helps in tapping into bigger and better opportunities. But remember Feng Shui alone can never turn your life around. To do that you need to continue walking towards your goals and let Feng Shui remove all speed breakers to make your ride smoother.

The commission voted to grant the Russellville Recreation and Parks Commission $4,000 from general funds to buy four new portable fences for tournament use.

Assistant Director Terry Thomas said the commission currently has two new fences and four old fences, which are in poor shape and need to be replaced. Thomas said the new fences are easier to store and have a longer durability.

The commission approved a $1,999 grant for the Arkansas Events and Festivals Association for its annual conference and trade show Jan. 29-30 at Lake Point Conference Center.

"These event planners are exactly who we want coming to our community," Director Christie Graham said.

The commission approved a $500 grant for an Arkansas Bass Team Trail tournament Feb. 21 at Lake Dardanelle State Park.

Because the event is a one-day tournament and would not result in participants staying more than one day in the area, the commission granted $500 rather than the $1,999 it granted in 2014.

The commission is expected to vote on awarding grants to the River Valley Stroke Play, Red Ball Express Convoy and Vintage Open Golf Tournament during its next meeting at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Chamber of Commerce.

Graham, Amanda Johnson, Al Brown, Shawn Gordon, Sarah Keating, Dusti Yarber and Tyler Riley were present.

In a move to address the shortage of skilled workers in manufacturing, Illinois Valley Community College trustees Thursday approved a new degree in engineering technology, according to a news release from the college. The degree was developed with input from eight technical program advisory groups.

This degree will prepare students for entry-level employment in technologically advanced production jobs in all sectors of manufacturing and provide skills in one of nine specialized fields, said Sue Isermann, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of workforce development.

Graduates also can enhance their employability by earning two nationally portable, industry-recognized credentials: ANSI-accredited Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) certification as a Certified Production Technician and OSHA 10-Hour General Industry.

The degree was developed as a result of IVCCs most recent National Science Foundation grant and the current Department of Labor iNAM grant. Isermann, with Director of Continuing Education Jamie Gahm and Jim Gibson,electronics program coordinator,worked with members of eight program advisory committees to develop the "stackable" credential.

The degree features iNAMs Earn as You Learn model. In the one-semester CPT program, students learn basic skills required for entry-level production manufacturing.

They then obtain employment, possibly with one of the 15 endorsers of the CPT, and advance their career by completing a related certificate in either wind energy, computer numerical control, industrial maintenance, industrial electrician, welding production, machinist and tool and die making, architectural/civil CAD, mechanical/electronic CAD computer aided drafting or HVAC.

Nationwide shortages of as many as 600,000 skilled workers are being reported by manufacturers and leading manufacturing industry groups, Isermann said. Even larger looming shortages are predicted due to pending retirements.

In another matter, IVCC President Jerry Corcoran said the college is awaiting authorization to proceed with Phase 3 construction of a student center, cyber cafe and other enhancements. Work is expected to begin next month for completion before the spring 2016 semester, according to the news release.
