Granite Transformations Shares Home Remodeling Projects with the Highest ROI from Remodeling Magazine's 2014 'Cost vs … - January 20, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Miramar, Fl (PRWEB) January 20, 2015

Granite Transformations is calling on homeowners who are looking for a high return on their home renovation investment to consider remodeling their kitchens or baths over other rooms in their homes, based on Remodeling magazines 2014 Cost vs. Value national report.

With 2015 upon us, many homeowners are embracing the thought of their dream kitchens and luxury baths, said Carl Griffenkranz, Vice President of Marketing for Granite Transformations. We are excited to share this informative report to enlighten homeowners to the projects that produce the greatest return on their investment. Granite Transformations is proud to offer kitchen and bath remodeling that is custom-tailored to meet our customers' needs turning their dreams into a reality. He continued, The demand for home remodeling continues to increase, which the report also illustrates. The population is aging in place, which means seniors are opting to make upgrades in order to stay comfortable in their homes as opposed to leaving. Families are also fixing to stay to avoid moving and uprooting their children from their schools and communities.

According to the report, the average cost of a minor kitchen remodel in the United States is approximately $18,856, which is a return of 82.7% of a homeowners investment. Additionally, the report states that a minor bathroom remodel costing $16,128 returns a 72.5% return on investment. Based on these national averages, homeowners can gauge their renovations around their specific needs. For major renovations, the cost will vary, depending on the type of project and geographic region. For example, New England and the Pacific regions tend to have higher remodeling averages than the Mid-Atlantic or Mountain regions.

Based on the averages below, attic bedroom remodels and garage door replacements can yield a high return on investment; however, they are typically not at the top of a buyers must-have list, whereas kitchens and bathrooms typically are the biggest selling points for homes.

Below is a list of projects that produce a great return on your investment: 1. Steel front door replacements (costing $1,162) yield a 96.6% return 2. Attic bedroom remodels (costing $49,428) yield a 84.3% return 3. Garage door replacements (costing $1,532) yield a 83.7% return 4. Minor kitchen remodels (costing $18,856) yield a 82.7% return 5. Basement remodels (costing $62,834) yield a 77.6% return 6. Bathroom remodels (costing $16,128) yield a 72.5% return 7. Garage additions (costing $49,911) yield a 69.3% return 8. Family room additions (costing $80,765) yield a 68.8% return 9. Bathroom additions (costing $38,186) yield a 60.1% return 10. Home office remodels (costing $28,000) yield a 48.9% return (Source: Remodeling magazines 2014 Cost vs. Value national report)

Energy efficiency continues to be a top consideration among homeowners who are thinking about embarking on a kitchen or bath remodel. Industry expert, Tim Maicher, Director of Marketing at BLANCO states that homeowners are becoming increasingly conscientious about the efficient use of energy, water and building materials in their homes. Our line of water-saving faucets continue to grow in popularity, saving homeowners up to 30% more water than standard flow faucets, said Maicher. Other green products like BLANCOs Compost System is built into the countertop where food waste can be collected and composted, along with a convenient cover to prevent odors. Its the perfect combination of function and style, Maicher said.

First Bakery Square 2.0 building almost full; Shadyside site ready to expand - January 20, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

With its first office building essentially full, developer Walnut Capital hopes to start construction of a second one at Bakery Square 2.0 in the booming Penn Avenue corridor in the East End later this year.

Todd Reidbord, Walnut Capital president, said today the firm is ready to start construction of the second six-story, 213,000-square-foot building in Shadyside as soon as it secures a significant commitment from a tenant. He doesnt think hell have to wait long for that.

We expect something to happen this year. The time is right. Pittsburghs hot, he said.

Mr. Reidbord made his comments after Walnut Capitals formal announcement that software company Autodesk will relocate from its offices in OHara and take about 15,000 square feet in the first building once it is completed in spring 2016. The new space will house up to 65 employees.

The move will put Autodesk closer to the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon, which will enable us to more closely collaborate on research and technology development with both universities, and make it easier for their students to do internships with the Autodesk Pittsburgh team, said Noah Cole, Autodesk spokesman.

With the move, the space in the first 215,000-square-foot, Gold LEED-certified building at Bakery Square 2.0 will be all but filled, Mr. Reidbord said. Google is the main tenant.

He added that officials at Pitt and CMU have been telling him that there appears to be great interest from tech-based companies in relocating to or adding offices in Pittsburgh. Given that, the goal is to start construction of a second building this year, he said.

Now that the first building is nearly full, we think well have more activity for a second building, Mr. Reidbord said.

Bakery Square, the redevelopment of the former Nabisco bakery in Larimer, already is full, with Google, UPMCs Technology Development Center, and CMUs Software Engineering Institute among the tenants. It is located across the street from Bakery Square 2.0.

Protecting Your Home From Cold Temperatures - January 19, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Frigid temperatures. Heavy snow fall. Yes, winter is in full force and it can take a toll on your bills and your home. Where should you start when protecting your home against cold temperatures?

"For extremely cold weather like we've been having, you want to protect your pipes. A lot of times your pipes will run up through your outer walls and can tend to freeze and burst. It could cost you thousands of dollars in repairs. I would recommend some insulation for them and we also have water heat cables. They're designed to keep it warm enough to where they won't freeze. Brings it up to about 40 degrees," said Roger Kelley with Home Depot.

While heating costs don't seem to be as high as they have been in the past, you still don't want to pay more than you have to. You can help retain the heat in your home with a few easy steps."

"To maintain heat in your house you want to seal your windows and doors with insulation. We have rubber, felt, a foam, and we also have the silicone. For gaps you can use caulks. For large gaps you can use the polysavers, the caulk savers," said Kelly.

If you spent all day outside shoveling, you might want to take a nice, long, hot shower. There is a way to save money on your water bills as well.

"This shower head will save you 20 percent of your water costs by using only two gallons versus 2.2 gallons per minute," Kelly said.

Keeping your driveway and walkways clear in the winter can be a pain. If you're using rock salt to melt the ice, you may want to reconsider.

"The bigger recommendation to save wear and tear on your driveway is to use calcium chloride versus rock salt because the rock salt can actually destroy and etch into the blacktop and the concrete. It's not recommended for new driveways at all. "

If you're using space heaters to keep particular rooms warm this time of year, make sure you buy one that turns off if it tips over, to avoid a fire hazard.

Dates Set For Octagon Tree Removal - January 19, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Dates Set For Octagon Tree Removal

Dunedin (Monday, 19 January 2015) Two large plane trees will be removed from the Octagon on 26 and 27 January.

The trees are in poor health and their removal was signalled late last year.

Dunedin City Council Group Manager Parks, Recreation and Aquatics Mick Reece says, The trees are being removed because, despite an ongoing programme over the past few years to increase the health of all the plane trees, the condition of these two trees has rapidly declined. They now need to be removed for safety reasons.

In order to limit disruption to businesses and the public, the work is scheduled to take place from 7pm each night. Part of the road through the Octagon will be closed while the work is carried out.

Before this work can proceed, the irrigation system needs to be disconnected from the trees being removed. This will take place during the day on Wednesday, 21 January and means the footpath on the lower side of the carriageway will be closed off at times.

The DCC is offering free sections of wood for wood turning and other creative/craft uses. Organisations wishing to take up this offer should contact DCC contractor Asplundh on 03 488 6378 by 30 January.
