Demolition continuing at former uranium plant - June 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) Demolition is continuing on the last of 32 inactive facilities scheduled to be removed at the former nuclear enrichment facility in Paducah.

The C-410 complex is roughly the size of four football fields and was used from 1957 to 1977 to produce uranium hexaflouride and fluorine.

The Paducah Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1jZNKqE) demolition is scheduled to be completed this fall.

Operators are cutting steel and other debris into smaller pieces to be shipped in heavily lined and covered railcars to a commercial disposal site. In 2012 and 2013, workers used special equipment to treat nearly two miles of uranium hexafluoride piping to make it safe for removal at the site.

LATA Kentucky is the U.S. Department of Energy contractor handling the demolition.

Tunbridge Wells cinema site demolition due to start today - June 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Tunbridge Wells cinema site demotion due to start today

DEMOLITION of the derelict ABC cinema site in Tunbridge Wells is due to start today (Monday).

Contractors are expected to start sealing off the site in readiness for a soft strip removing the interior of the site on July 14.

The redevelopment of the site is one of the most long-awaited events in the town, with public outrage at its decrepit appearance and concern at the potential harm to the economy and tourism because of the empty shops.

The cinema has stood empty since it the cinema closed in 2000.

The target date for completion of demolition is October 17 with a final two weeks of tidying up the site.

Developer Bellhouse Joseph revealed the timetable of works to the Courier last month.

It also said talks had broken down with Waitrose over rental rates.

The knocking down of the structures will start on July 21 and scaffolding will be erected.

As the Courier has reported, work will start on the south side and progress to the north, with the cinema last to be flattened.

Upscale development launches custom-design second phase - June 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    WEST CHESTER TWP.

A Butler County-based developer with more than three decades of experience is helping bring a new and final phase to an upscale residential community.

David Clinton of David J. Clinton and Company in Hamilton this month launched The Estates of Treillage, which sits south of Hamilton-Mason Road just east of the border between West Chester and Fairfield townships.

Clinton, who has developed 19 subdivisions since 1978 and run about nine homeowners associations, said hes well aware of the challenges and pitfalls of developing on the site and well equipped to handle them.

I came in here with the resources and the business experience to operate it successfully, Clinton said.

The second phase of the Treillage development will feature 37 residential estate homes with lot sizes of between half to one acre each.

Homeowners may choose from a variety of building lots on wooded home sites featuring panoramic views and flexible setbacks, with the ability to accommodate sprawling floor plans of as much as 12,000 square feet, said Susan Horner of Keller Williams Pinnacle Group Realty.

Instead of being limited to the first phases Frank Lloyd Wright-style of architecture, residents of The Estates will get to consult with home builders The Leland Group or Somerset Custom Homes to help tailor the design, materials, amenities and character of each home from start to finish.

Its true custom design, Horner said. When you have select custom builders, what that means for the consumer is a one-of-a-kind home. That assists in maintaining the value.

Prices for each home will start in the $500,000 range and could top out at $1.5 million, she said.

Park City Flooring Company, Kalia, Releases Study on Factors Affecting Carpet Performance - June 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Park City, Utah (PRWEB) June 30, 2014

A matted carpet is a common problem that many house owners have to contend with. Carpets which are kept in areas that have high movement such as the living room can get worn and old look quite fast. This matted appearance can also be seen in corners where furniture has been kept on the carpet for long periods of time. A recent survey by Kalia regarding Park City floors reveals that it takes regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure the best performance from a carpet.

Founder, Scott Heath, comments. "The term 'performance' with reference to carpets is a measure of how well a carpet maintains its original texture and appearance under normal traffic. Each carpet is different and has its own unique characteristics." He continues. "The characteristics of varying carpets is put to the test by the elements that are tracked in from footwear. This is magnified when it comes to Utah, particularly Park City floors, where you get sunshine one day, rain the next, and extreme snow during the winter."

These quality and characteristics of carpet depend on the raw materials used in construction and also on the design choices of the company. For example, natural fibers such as wool tend to wear gradually but this isn't the case with synthetic fibers. The study revealed the following as the primary causes of matted or premature wear on carpet.

    Density of Carpet

The density references how close the strands of the carpet have been woven together. The denser a carpet is, the longer it will last. Density will also affect the appearance of a carpet and can even make a low quality product look grand. While it is best to keep away from carpets with a low face weight, high density can compensate for the lack of weight. For example, old nylon carpets last for years even after extensive use. This is because nylon is naturally a dense material. If the density of carpet were to be reduced, then it would need an increase in the amount of yarn and twist to maintain the same level of performance.

    Tightness of Twist

This refers to how tightly the fibers have been wound around each other. Generally the more tight the twist is, the better will be the carpet's performance, though it will lead to a reduction in the total bulk. It can be thought of as analogous to a knot. If there are a number of twists and turns in the knot, then the chances of unravelling become much smaller. Similarly, a carpet with a high twist level will not get matted very fast. To judge the twist level of a carpet, carefully examine the cut ends of the individual yarns. If they are neat and clearly defined, then that means the carpet has a good tightness of twist.

    Face Weight

This is the total weight of the fibers in the carpet measured in ounces per square yard. It provides a good idea of how much material is present in the carpet, and hence is an indicator of how quickly the carpet will wear out. Generally a carpet with a high face weight will not get matted fast as it tends to be more dense. But this might not always be the case. Sometimes when fibers of long length are used, the density of the carpet tends to be very less. It will lead to a good face weight but might not have the best quality.
