Powder Rooms can be dazzling when you create layers of interest, a few tips can help make the most of a small bathroom. (Posted By Normandy Remodeling, Community Contributor / February 4, 2014)
Despite the limited size and elements in a typical powder room, there is plenty of opportunity to impress in these small spaces. A Naperville couple was seeking something with more interest in a light color scheme for their powder room, and worked with Normandy Designer Ann Stockard to achieve their goals. Stockard focused on three design elements to make their desired look a reality: 1. Including texture. The beadboard and tile mosaic make the space more detailed and inviting. 2. Choosing an interesting light fixture. An art deco style light fixture was selected that guests would notice. The fixture draws the eye up, which also helps the powder room seem more spacious. 3. Infusing personality. Powder rooms really serve as an extension of the rooms around it, which is led to the selection of a soft blue paint that is also in the kitchen. However, there is room for flexibility in powder rooms; choosing the green glass tiles gives the room its own personality and adds a hint of sparkle. Industry peers loved the texture and level of functionality in this space, and the powder room recently received a First Place Remodeling Excellence Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, (NARI) Greater Chicagoland.

Hampton Township School District officials are discussing a potential large-scale remodeling project at the high school that could cost as much as $10 million.
Administrators and school board members hosted a meeting on Jan. 27 with township residents and two architects from VEBH Architects to discuss ideas for remodeling the school.
We have not made any decisions. We have not spent any money. Even our architect is here pro bono, Superintendent John Hoover said.
During the presentation, Hampton High School Principal Jeff Finch identified areas of concern that administrators identified and upgrades that could improve energy consumption, security or education at the high school, where there currently are 1,098 students enrolled.
The major areas of improvement include relocating the main office and establishing a captured vestibule to direct visitors directly into the main office to increase safety; consolidating all the guidance services in one site; updating the technology infrastructure; alleviating congested hallways; establishing a project-based learning lab to focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and math, or STEAM initiatives; updating the science labs, especially chemistry; and increasing storage for a number of departments. Finch also provided an additional list of areas for improvement.
Tom Durkin and Dan Engen, principals with VEBH, provided a number of architectural options for the various areas of concern to get the board to consider options and generate more questions.
There is a lot to address, so the question is, Where to now?' Durkin said. It might be too soon to talk about numbers; it's very early in the process. The most important aspect of this project is a plan.
Engen said the architects do not yet have all of the information needed to make suggestions for quality solutions.
Durkin said if the school board decides to move forward with exploring the remodeling plan further, administrators and architects first would have to meet with all of the user groups to summarize the educational needs and then develop conceptual studies and alternatives and cost estimates. The administration and school board would have to review that information.

Chandlers Roofing, Southern Californias leading roofing and solar contractor, today announced its official membership with California Association of Community Managers (CACM). Comprised of more than 3,000 California-based professionals from the community association management industry, CACM is the only organization in the United States to offer a California-specific educational program leading to the designation of Certified Community Association Manager (CCAM) for industry professionals. Through its regular networking events, educational courses, Resource Guide, as well as its online E-Marketplace, CACM brings California common interest development (CID) industry professionals together with the top California based service providers and property management firms.
"Having Chandler's Roofing join CACM as an affiliate member is important to us. Their knowledge of relevant roofing techniques and technical expertise will afford great education for our manager members," stated CACM president and CEO, Karen D. Conlon.
With a long history of working with homeowners associations (HOA), community management groups and CIDs, Chandlers Roofing is repositioning itself to better support the anticipated roofing and solar demands of the CID communities in Los Angeles and Orange County over the next few years. According to a recent study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., the US demand for roofing is projected to rise 3.5 percent annually to 268 million roofing squares in 2017, valued at $27.2 billion.
We see a lot of pent up demand within the HOA arena, as well increased pressures from rising energy costs and Title 24 roof compliance in Southern California, commented Trevor Leeds, president of Chandlers Roofing. Chandler's Roofing is strategically positioned to support the HOA roofing and solar market in Southern California and we know that getting involved with an organization such as CACM will only help us to better educate Los Angeles and Orange County community leaders with the proper roofing and solar specifications for their communities.
Multiple HOA and community management groups utilize Chandlers Roofing for their annual roof maintenance programs, solar power services, rain gutters, and re-roofing applications for both steep-slope and low-slope roofing systems. In October 2013, Chandlers Roofing was featured in both Western Roofing magazine and Professional Roofing magazine for their outstanding work and coordination of a condo re-roof project of the Pines Town homes in Lomita, CA. Additionally, Chandler's Roofing was awarded the Residential Roofing Contractor of the Year by Roofing Contractor magazine in 2011.
About Chandlers Roofing: Originally established in 1942, Chandler's Roofing has been recognized as the premier Southern California roofing contractor, winning leading industry awards such as 2011 Roofing Contractor of the Year and 2010-13 Angie's List Super Service Awards, and earning the prestigious Master Elite, Master Select and Solar Elite Contractor status with America's largest roofing manufacturer, GAF. Eastview Church plans two additions -
February 6, 2014 by
Mr HomeBuilder
NORMAL Eastview Christian Church is seeking a site plan amendment from the Normal Planning Commission so it can build two additions.
The commission will consider the request at its 5 p.m. Thursday meeting in Room 409 of Uptown Station.
Mark Warren, executive pastor at the church, said a two-story, 7,300-square-foot, east-side addition would allow the church to expand first-floor space for its pre-kindergarten through first-grade ministry. The second floor of that addition would give additional space for 2- and 3-year-olds.
A proposed 24,330-square-foot, west-side addition would bring a double-wide gymnasium for the churchs sports ministry and its programs for junior high school students, Warren said.
The church also is planning major remodeling projects in two existing spaces, Warren said. A balcony will be added to the current gymnasium and two classrooms will be expanded to provide more space for the churchs fourth- and fifth-grade ministries.
Our growth has outpaced our facility, Warren said.
Eastview Christian Church, 1500 N. Airport Road, added a fourth Sunday service in January. Warren said Sunday attendance for all four services is 6,000.
The proposed additions and remodeling is designed to meet immediate needs, he said.
Town staff supports the request. Town Planner Mercy Davison said the church will add landscaping based on the additional land to be developed. Several existing trees will be relocated and other trees added, she said.
The town approved a site plan amendment in November 2005 for a 51,000-square-foot addition on the west/northwest side of the church and another amendment in 2011 to expand the atrium on the north side.
