SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) Sacramento County is finally doing something about an epidemic of cars crashing through fences in one neighborhood.

Chad Bradley still lives on edge, even after hearing the county is trying to make the dangerous Roseville Road intersection safer.

Every single [car] you hear that is coming fast, you hold your breath for a second, he said, and when it passes, youre relaxed.

Four cars have crashed through his fence and into his backyard in the past 16 months.

CBS13 first met Chad in December when he showed us the concrete barriers he constructed to protect his wife, kids, and home.

I cant risk something happening to my family, waiting on the county getting something done here, he said.

Then in January, Chads neighbor, Jaylene Higgins, called us after her fence was hit. It wasnt her first time either.

The neighbors blame the crashes on speeding drivers on Roseville Road failing to negotiate the turn into their neighborhood.

Lady Of Verona is another making her debut over fences. She has been very consistent in minor company over timber and her pedigree suggests this should be her game.

Ed shares a simple tip for when you have construction done:

We recently had to have drywall in my home office replaced after a bad roof leak. Before they put the new drywall back up, I took pictures so I would know exactly what the interior layout of the walls was in case I wanted to do work later. Now, I know where studs and cross supports are, where electrical and phone cables run. When it comes time for me to install network cabling (my spring project), I know just how to plan the run.

I know its a simple trick, but I thought it was worth sharing. Any time you have the walls (or anything really) open, snap a picture. You never know when it might come in handy.

Mike shares a possible solution for slow-running Windows laptops:

Im the family and friend tech support guy, just like Im sure a lot of Lifehacker readers are. Over the years, Ive come across this particular problem several times when people have told me their laptops seemed to be running really slowly or accessing the hard disk all the time.

Many times, the culprit is Windows Update stuck in an updating cycle. I think that when people are using the laptop wirelessly, Windows starts the download and installation automatically, but then they put the laptop to sleep before its finished and Windows doesnt recover well from that. The installer or updater process just sits there eating up cycles.

The fix is simple, though. Plug the laptop into the network with an Ethernet cable and run Windows Update. Let it install everything and then update it again to make sure theres nothing left over. When youre done, adjust the Windows Update settings so that instead of downloading and installing updates automatically, Windows just notifies them when new updates are available.

Drivers in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties are advised to use caution in the following areas where the Florida Department of Transportation says road construction or other projects are underway:

SARASOTA COUNTY

Interstate 75 from Sumter Boulevard in North Port to River Road. Crews widening the highway to six lanes. Expect lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-75 from University Parkway to the Charlotte County line. Expect delays. Crews are installing closed-circuit cameras, roadside sensors and other equipment for an intelligent transportation system.

I-75 overpass at Jacaranda Boulevard. Crews to paint the overpass. Lane closores on Jacaranda may occur at night.

I-75 at Fruitville Road, Laurel Road, Jacaranda Road and Sumter Boulevard. Crews replacing overhead signs. Lane closures between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Tamiami Trail at Gulf Gate Drive, Bay Acres Avenue and General Spaatz Boulevard; State Road 789 (John Ringling Causeway and North Gulfstream Avenue) at Sunset Drive-Golden Gate Drive; Clark Road at Beneva Road and Sawyer Road; and Bee Ridge Road at Murdock Avenue and Honore Avenue. Lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews replace mast arms and traffic control devices.

U.S. 41 at the Circus Drawbridge in Venice. Intermittent lane closures in both directions from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday during bridge maintenance.

U.S. 41 between Shamrock Boulevard and Lowes entrance in Venice. Crews constructing driveway. Southbound outside lane closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 5:30 a.m. Thursday
