Did beachfront demolition pose threat to drivers, spectators? - February 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

A beachfront hotel came down quickly and without warning Wednesday, but the demolition of the old Howard Johnson hotel gave drivers along State Road A1A and spectators quite a scare.

Dianne Bolduc said she was shaking after watching the demolition.

"It was incredible, but it happened so fast," she said. "(There was) no announcement and they didn't stop traffic or anything."

Just how close was the old hotel to A1A? Not more than 75 feet, Local 10 News reported.

Stiles Construction, which was responsible for the demolition, closed the pedestrian sidewalk adjacent to the former building, but not the roadway.

Even the developer of the future Paramount Fort Lauderdale Beach was surprised how quickly the hotel crumbled.

"Yeah, it actually went pretty fast," One World Properties owner Peggy Fucci said. "We were expecting it to last a little bit longer."

The old hotel was initially supposed to be imploded this Sunday, but instead it was pulled down by a crane with cables attached to certain key support beams.

"The team meticulously planned the process to ensure the full safety of the surrounding area, and designed the demolition so that the building would fall safely away from A1A," Stiles Construction said in a statement.

The 'Demolition Man' Who Will Be Italy's Next Leader - February 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Matteo Renzi is called the Demolition Man of Italian politics, a nickname he earned by endlessly lampooning the political establishment and calling on aging politicians to make way for the next generation. The old guard hasnt budged, so the 39-year-old mayor of Florence intends to force the shift, starting at the top. All but certain to become Italys next prime minister since the center-left Democratic Party withdrew its support for Enrico Letta, the current premier, on Feb. 13, Renzi pledges to bring order to the countrys chaotic political system. We have had the worst group of leaders in all of Europe over the last 30 years, Renzi said in December after winning more than 1.5 million votes to assume leadership of the Democratic Party. They use the word stability as a pretext for their own immobility.

Renzi has said that within 100 days hell radically reshape the countrys fractious Parliament. Italy has endured decades of short-lived governments because its often impossible for legislators to assemble a reliable majority. The writers of the 1948 constitution, more concerned with avoiding another Benito Mussolini than creating a workable government, made it hard for anyone or any group to take control. Renzi wants to squeeze out smaller fringe parties that attract scant support but often hold up legislation. He also says hell shrink the Parliament by abolishing its upper house, the 320-member Senate, which he says is unnecessary. To do that, though, hell have to persuade those senators to vote themselves out of their jobs.

This would be an absurd request in any country, and in Italy even more so. Italian lawmakers are among the most coddled politicians on earth, with generous salaries, housing stipends, and chauffeured cars. Renzi hasnt said how he expects to pull it off. Ill shake his hand if he gets it done, says former Senator Elio Lannutti. Having a little experience in that field myself, Id say it will be very difficult.

Renzi made his way from midsize-city mayor to national leader by breaking ranks and mocking his superiors in the Democratic Party, usually with a smile. His ease in front of camerasat 19 he was a contestant on Italys version of Wheel of Fortunehas drawn comparisons to the dominant Italian politician of the last 20 years, three-time Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Renzi is the first Italian leader since Berlusconi who has a realistic prospect of connecting with voters, says Alex White, a political analyst for JPMorgan Chase (JPM) in London.

Of course, any perceived similarity between Renzi and the 77-year-old media magnate, convicted tax fraudster, and bunga-bunga party host could wind up a curse, but Renzi may benefit if it helps him win over Berlusconi loyalists. The two appear to have developed an understanding, if not quite a friendship. Berlusconi has called Renzi ironic and funny, saying he reminds him of his younger self. Renzi refrains from poking fun at Berlusconis legal problems.

On Jan. 18, Renzi met privately with Berlusconi at Democratic Party headquarters near Romes Trevi Fountain. Berlusconi, out of power but still influential, has said his Forza Italia party wont be part of Renzis coalition. But his tacit blessing of the new government may be just what the incoming prime minister needs to begin showing Berlusconis generation the door.

Demolition underway at Apple spaceship campus - February 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Spaceship campus is expected to be done in 2015 or 2016

Apple has been working to get Cupertino to approve the plans for its massive new spaceship campus. Those plans got the approval last year and word has surfaced that it appears construction is underway. An aerial view of the land where the spaceship campus will sit has hit the web reports 9to5Mac.

The view from the air shows just how massive the campus is. It also clearly shows that demolition is underway to remove the existing buildings on the land and clear the way for Steve Jobs' vision. Jobs presented the pans for the campus himself to the Cupertino City Council back in 2011.

He didn't live to see the demolition start on his dream. Reports indicate that Apple recently constructed a full size mockup of one small section of the building to test construction methods and allow the firm to see what the concrete elements would look like in real life.

The facility is expected to be finished in 2015 or 2016. It appears that a lot of homes and apartments are located right around the Apple campus. The campus will look very much like a park when complete, I wonder if it will increase property values in the area. I also wonder if the facility might drive up rent for nearby homes and apartments. Too bad there is no actual photo of the full size model that was built; it would be cool to see what the building will look like when it is complete. All we have seen so far are renderings.

Custom Home Builder Beaufort Announces Plans for Creating New Developments - February 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Beaufort, SC (PRWEB) February 20, 2014

Custom Home Builder Beaufort is announcing plans for creating new home and luxury home development locations in the Beaufort, SC, area.

The company has put together a team of experienced consultants that can offer, from their years of experience in the home-building business, key insights and important information a new buyer will want to know. The consultant and buyer sit down, review multiple options around what the buyer is seeking in his or her dream home, and compare those results with what is available within the buyer's budget.

It is important to make sure that all building permits are in place before construction begins. Custom Home Builder Beaufort has developed quite a team of licensed electricians, plumbers, landscapers and interior designers that go right to work once papers are signed to move forward with the project.

The company only works with high-quality individuals, and makes sure the job gets done right. Anyone that is sent out to the building site must have their licenses up to date, therefore guaranteeing the new home will meet today's standards.

Custom Home Builder Beaufort understands that a new home deserves to look really incredible from inside the living room to the backyard. An interior designer can work with the buyer, look at the home design itself and just see what the buyer wants his or her dream home to look like. From carpeting to furniture styles, all of these intricate areas are covered. Then, the landscaper gets down to the nitty gritty of grass, plants, flowers and ways to beautify the outdoor areas.

The home consultant will walk along with the buyer step by step, answering questions and listening to concerns.
