MUSKOGEE Six people were indicted Monday in federal court in connection with two bribery investigations involving the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, former Flintco employees and a host of sub-contracting agencies involved with casino construction projects.
The alleged bribes include lavish trips by private jet, vehicles, hunting and golf trips, an African safari, firearms, tuition payments for private school, a lake home, furniture, kitchen remodels and more than $1 million spent on expensive gifts, including at least $855,000 spent at Louis Vuitton.
Lauri Ann Parsons, owner of Builders Steel, and her husband, Brent Alan Parsons, vice president of Builders Steel; Cordell Alan Bugg, former vice president of Flintcos pre-construction services; and James Winfield Stewart, a sales executive for Scott Rice, an office furniture company, were indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit theft or bribery. Brent Parsons and Stewart also face money laundering charges.

The Talladega City Council unanimously passed four resolutions during a meeting Monday night at City Hall, but one in particular garnered the most attention during a public hearing held before the council meeting.
Resolution 2848 approved a $20,300 contract with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for administration of the Community Development Block Grant for the Frazier Farms Drainage Project
Lance Armbrester and Chuck Chitwood of CDG Engineers discussed the details of the project designed to improve the water flow and drainage in two basins located between and around Frazier Street and Battle Street to the north and south and Rosa Street and Long Street from west to east.
All the runoff from this area comes from lawns, driveways and roadside ditches, Chitwood said. The first thing we had to do to figure out what was going on was to make site visits.
The first site the engineers researched was the Southwest Basin, an area between Rosa Street and Elbert Davis Street.
We have a significant amount of excavation work to be done in that area in order to accommodate the storm water, Armbrester said. All storm water in this area has been documented to be very severe to the point where there are several homes that are expected to be flooded several times each year.
The team then took time to study the North Basin, an area twice the size of the Southwest Basin and surrounding the smaller basin on the western, northern and eastern edges.
We have some significant design work to do in this area, Chitwood said.
Council President Horace Patterson proclaimed the drainage woes had been an issue for the city for close to 20 years.
I started to use the word disaster, but I think maybe the best word would be embarrassment that people have to live in that kind of situation for that long, Patterson said. Im trying to figure out how much benefit were going to get from this project as it relates to the issue.

Talladega City Council OKs drainage project
BERNARDS TWP. Seeing a rare opportunity, the Board of Education voted in a special meeting Monday to seek $2.55 million in state grants that would help fund $9.06 million in heating and cooling upgrades to five district schools.
School Business Administrator Rod McLaughlin said the state recently made available regular operating district grants with an application deadline of Wednesday, Sept. 4. District officials did not know when such money would be available again.
The district already has a capital reserve nearly large enough to fund the long-planned upgrades on its own, so there were no objections to the grant requests.
I think its a great opportunity to get money thats so hard to get from the state, said board member Elaine Kusel.
The upgrades are sought for RidgeHigh School, WilliamAnninMiddle School and Oak Street, Cedar Hill and Liberty Corner schools. The only exception is Mount ProspectSchool, which was not built until 1999. The other schools precede 1970.
Two grant requests will be filed for each school one to replace the schools unit ventilators, which act as heaters; and one to upgrade the schools heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system.
A total of 182 unit ventilators would be replaced. McLaughlin said the units are all at least 35 to 39 years beyond their useful life.
The HVAC projects would include upgrades to the electrical service and operational software.
An upgraded system should allow us to control all of the energy uses a lot better, McLaughlin said. The schools were expanded at different times so theres a different system in each building. It makes it a lot more complicated.
The upgrades should produce long-term energy savings, he added.
