NANUET, N.Y., June 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The disaster recovery experts at Total Environmental Restoration Services (TERS) brought immediate peace of mind to a Westchester County, NY family that suddenly found themselves in the midst of an environmental emergency. A routine oil delivery turned into a dangerous biohazard situation when 100 gallons of oil were accidentally spilled onto the New York residential property.

"Cleaning oil spills is one of our many industry-certified environmental services," said Gary (Gadi) Shaked, TERS Environmental Analyst, whose in-house team of remediation experts responded to the call immediately. For over 20 years TERS has provided exceptional environmental cleanup and restoration services to families, businesses, and government bodies throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, including fire and smoke damage, asbestos and mold removal, water damage and flood cleanup, and sewage leak cleanup.
"We respond to each emergency with a set of core experts," explained Shaked, "Immediate action at an oil spill like this requires simultaneous assessment, containment, and protection of people." TERS remediation experts got to work immediately setting up special equipment to contain the oil spill, while engineers began assessing the outdoor and indoor air quality to ensure the family's safety.
While a cleanup of this magnitude takes time, involving proven experts like TERS enabled the family to safely remain in their home for the duration of the project. "We continuously monitor VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) before, during, and after cleanup. That hard and fast reporting allows us to ensure a family's safety without disrupting their daily lives or requiring them to leave the home."
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is of utmost concern in many remediation projects including mold and asbestos abatement, smoke damage restoration, and duct cleaning. TERS employs state-of-the-art strategies to preserve safety long after the job is complete. Their uniquely green remediation strategies use only environmentally friendly cleansing products. No harmful chemicals are ever introduced to the property or the air during abatement, further preserving safety.
"We never treat hazards by bringing more hazards and we don't mask odors or air contamination," assured Shaked. "We are one hundred percent dedicated to the safest procedures, the cleanest results, and the restoration of properties and valuables." When disaster strikes TERS' swift action can help preserve and restore valuables including computer equipment, books, photographs, and even art.
TERS also handled all EPA requirements and paperwork for the family during the oil spill decontamination. They are uniquely positioned to assist with all aspects of a remediation project, including insurance company claims.

With the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang less than two years away, this summer is the time to begin restoring your classic pony car so that it can be ready for one of the most important milestones in American automotive history.

"Working nights and weekends, and as your budget allows, it takes roughly two years to do a complete wheels-up classic car restoration," says Brian Martin, director of automotive restoration development at McPherson College in Kansas. McPherson is the only school in North America that offers a four-year bachelor's degree in automobile restoration.
Martin says with careful project planning and outsourcing of some specialized jobs such as painting and transmission rebuilding, a father and son following a detailed plan can easily restore a first-generation Mustang in a good-sized home garage. What's needed are basic hand tools, proper manuals, good mechanical skills and a realistic budget.
Restoring a classic Mustang is a great father and son project, and this Sunday, June 17, is Father's Day a great day to kick off a Mustang restoration with the goal of having the car ready for its 50th anniversary on April 17, 2014.
Jonathan Brand and his dad have restored three classic Mustangs in their home garage, a '65 coupe and two '69 models. It was an experience Brand says he will never forget.
"My dad and I weren't as close before we restored the Mustangs," says Brand, an artist who now lives in New Haven, Conn. "It definitely brought us closer together, all those hours working on the cars. He taught me a lot about cars, and we had a lot of fun."
Brand's advice: Have patience, manage the budget and use Ford-licensed restoration parts, especially for the sheet metal repairs.
"We tried using panels from junkyards, but when you consider the time it takes to get them off and then to get them to fit properly on your car, it just isn't worth it. We found the new parts fit really well," Brand says.

A piece of local history was sold today with the closing of Ernest Hemingways boyhood home in Oak Park.
The 4,100-square-foot house at 600 N. Kenilworth was sold by the Ernest Hemingway Foundation to an Oak Park family, Kurt and Mary Jane Neumann, for $525,000.
The house has great bones, and our goal is uncover many of its original features, said Mary Jane Neumann. We plan to use the Hemingways floor plans as a guide to the restoration.
The first step is to reopen the master stairway between the first and second floors and then repair the exterior. Overall, we see this as a multi-year project and a labor of love.
I have sold many fantastic homes, EE Roberts, Spencer, Frankies (Frank Lloyd Wright), but in the past 13 years this has been one of the most interesting and rewarding, said Steve Scheuring, the selling agent with the Oak Park-based Baird & Warner.
The home garnered international attention after news that it was on the market went viral on Feb. 21. By March 8, it was under contract for its asking price, Scheuring said. The showing schedule became so intense that Scheuring had to create mandated time slots which were, booked solid and then some. He had inquiries from as far away as Japan and even had a couple fly in from Canada to take a look.

Comeback for Buswell? -

Will Troy Buswell return as WA's Treasurer?
Two parliamentary secretaries could be elevated to the state Cabinet following the sudden resignation of Treasurer and Attorney-General Christian Porter yesterday.
Mr Porter immediately moved to the backbench after announcing his intention to run for the federal seat of Pearce.
The gaping hole in the senior portfolios could see former treasurer Troy Buswell return to the role but that would also leave his present responsibilities of housing, transport and emergency services up for grabs.

If Premier Colin Barnett prefers to avoid a wider Cabinet reshuffle he could retain the treasury position beyond a temporary capacity but holding the two highest portfolios would be considered too great a workload.
He is more likely to promote one of his MPs with some economic and business credentials, such as Liza Harvey or Mike Nahan.
Both are members of the Economics and Industry Standing Committee, with Mr Nahan the chairman. Ms Harvey also is Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, a role considered to be in preparation for a ministry.
Political analyst Harry Phillips said Nationals MP Wendy Duncan also could not be ruled out.
Either way, a junior MP is likely to be promoted to Cabinet either as Treasurer or to fill Mr Buswell's vacated portfolios.

President Aquino, whose survey ratings are on a dangerous slide, initiated yesterday a shuffling of members of his Cabinet with the daughter of Budget Secretary Butch Abad bowing out of government service to pave the way for Energy Secretary Jose Almendras as the new chief of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS).
Despite presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierdas denial, and the usual alibis of having short or no information on media queries, Almendras is set to take over the PMS in a matter of two weeks as President Aquino has reportedly picked his preference for his replacement at the Department of Energy (DoE).
With Almendras as the new PMS chief, the President chose to get a veteran replacement for the Department of Energy (DoE). Expected to take over the post that Almendras handled for the last two years is former Finance Secretary Emmanuel Bonoan.
Aquino has long been eyeing Almendras for the position of Secretary of the Cabinet.
As it is, Aquino could no longer afford to wait longer to effect a shake-up in the Cabinet, with Julia Abads request to be relieved of her duties and assume a full time role of a wife and mother.
However, the outgoing PMS chiefs father, Budget Secretary Butch Abad, doesnt see his daughters departure as happening very soon. He however admitted that his daughter, who had just given birth, needs more family time, adding that her job at the PMS deprives her of precious time she wanted to spend with her family.
Palace reporters have been trying to get
confirmation from the Office of the Presidential Spokesman since Monday, but Lacierda claimed to be unaware of such Cabinet movement in the offing.

"If you don't change every 10 years or so, you're in trouble," says owner Carl Quagliata. "We've probably been operating on the same level as 12 years ago. It's time."
That means a reallocation of space, he says. A small party room will be incorporated into the front of the restaurant. The bar will be expanded, with the addition of walk-through wine racks -- "so you can see into the bar and into the dining room," Quagliata says.

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo., June 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Although SlateTec Inc. has been in the lightweight slate roofing industry for 12 years, it took the right ownership and business plan to make it in today's economy. With giant corporations and tough opposition around every corner, SlateTec needed to find an edge on the competition.
What they found was that simply being honest and portraying themselves for what they were was the key to success. SlateTec was never a huge corporation or firm, and never wanted to be one. They take pride in personal communication with clients and small business service ethics that win over customers on a personal level and succeed on a business level.
Since the word got out and the calls started coming in, SlateTec Inc. announced the employment of several veteran sales representatives across the country. These reps are trained and certified with the product and are eager to get started.
"We are excited to have these guys in the field with our product and to continue spreading the word about SlateTec," said Mike McDonough Sr., president of SlateTec. SlateTec also introduced a new website (http://www.slatetec.net) this month, which has much more features and information than the previous site. "The new site is a lot more user-friendly and caters to high-end homeowners, roofing companies, and architects looking for slate roof options," according to Michael McDonough, Mike's son, and marketing director.
The patented SlateTec roof system layers the highest-grade slate (grade S1) over a recyclable high-tech signature interlayment to reduce roof weight, and amount of slate used, by approximately 40 percent while producing a roof "made of natural slate and looking exactly like a traditional slate roof," according to McDonough.
"Our simple process reduces roof weight to the level of asphalt or wood shingles without compromising the aesthetics and durability of natural slate. Homeowners, contractors and architects now have the option of quickly and easily replacing asphalt or wood shingles with beautiful long-lasting slate," he said.
In the past, switching a roof from asphalt shingles to slate required improving the roof structure to support the greater weight of stone. (Clay and concrete tiles are similarly heavy.) The cost and time of this work typically either deterred homeowners or led them to synthetic slate, which is lighter.
SlateTec is priced similar to imitation slates and the few complicated lightweight slate methods presently available.
"Weight and price are comparable to synthetics, but we supply natural S1 grade slate - we are greener - and the roof will last up to 100 years, versus 50 years, and it will look identical to a traditionally installed slate roof," McDonough added.
"The curb appeal is unequalled. And with our simple installation process, any roofing contractor can now install natural slate," he said.

The Cowboys hope free agent acquisition Brandon Carr (No. 39) can help solidify a secondary that finished 23rd in the league in yards allowed last year. (Matthew Emmons/US Presswire)
With NFL training camps just around the corner, were taking a team-by-team look at how the offseason played out and what you can expect in 2012. Click here to read them all.
On Nov. 6 of last year, the Cowboys kicked off a four-game win streak by downing the Seattle Seahawks. One week later, the Giants stumbled in San Francisco, lifting the lid on a four-game losing streak.
All signs pointed to Dallas pulling away in a very mediocre NFC East and returning to the playoffs after missing out in 2010.
That all changed in Week 13, though. Despite a lethargic effort on the road at Arizona, Dallas was in position to pull out its fifth straight victory. But at the end of regulation, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett inexplicably iced his own kicker prior to a potential game-winning field goal. Dan Bailey then missed the 49-yarder, Arizona went on to win in overtime, and the Cowboys lost four of their final five games including a 31-14 shellacking in the Meadowlands in Week 17, which gave the Giants the division crown.
Dallas looks like a favorite in the NFC East again. As owner Jerry Jones said just a few weeks ago, however, the window might be closing on the Cowboys aging core.
2011 Record: 8-8 (third place, NFC East) Key Additions: CB Brandon Carr, CB Morris Claiborne, LB Dan Connor, DE Tyrone Crawford, G Nate Livings, QB Kyle Orton, S Brodney Pool, FB Lawrence Vickers Key Subtractions: TE Martellus Bennett, S Abram Elam, CB Terence Newman, WR Laurent Robinson Team Strengths: QB, RB, WR, CB, OLB Team Weaknesses: OL, DE
Three Things to Watch:
1. Has the interior of the offensive line been fixed?: During the 2010 season, the Cowboys lined up Andre Gurode at center with Leonard Davis at right guard and Kyle Kosier on the left. Last season, Dallas featured a Montrae Holland-Phil Costa-Kosier interior for the majority of its games.
The drop-off was severe.
